Surgery pending

Thanks for all your good wishes. I survived,

The Doc said that it definitely needed doing, the shoulder probably wouldn’t have hung together much longer.

I am typing with one hand, the other arm is in a sling. No use of that arm for a minimum of 6 weeks, probably 8. No lifting, pulling, pushing, dragging, hauling. I can’t even use it to scratch my nose without permission. I can’t shower or immerse my body in water until the surgical wounds are completely healed. That means that my lovely bride gets to wash my hair and body or live with the consequences. Hmmmmmm. This could be fun.

Pain is not too bad as long as I stay on sked with my meds. Anti-inflammatories, mostly

The nurses were all young, cute, professional, highly competent, and returned my guff as strong as I gave it. It was very enjoyable, verbally sparring with them.

I’m not sure, no, I am sure that nothing will be accomplished on the RR for a while. Hopefully, fixing this bit of pain will allow me to progress more rapidly.

Good to hear Steve. Glad it went well for you.

Editted to ask:
Since you’re one handed now, does this mean you won’t have anymore questions on my build thread ?

Steve… glad to hear it all went well… good luck with a quick recovery… and, follow doc’s orders…

“I survived.”

I had my money on you. The bookies had to pay off 12:1. It was a gamble, but I won big. That $0.25 was well invested.

“The Doc said that it definitely needed doing, the shoulder probably wouldn’t have hung together much longer.”

He had to justify his procedure.

“No lifting, pulling, pushing, dragging, hauling.”

I hope there is a couple of other things you can do that ends with “ing”, including, eating, sleeping and other things. Be careful.

“This could be fun.”

As I said, be careful.

“Pain is not too bad as long as I stay on sked with my meds.”

Nothing like good drugs. Rum helps them work better. No really, I checked with my doctor in St. Croix.

“The nurses were all young, cute, professional, highly competent, and returned my guff as strong as I gave it. It was very enjoyable, verbally sparring with them.”

Glad to see you followed the procedure of staying drunk until the time of surgery. It makes them look cuter.

Stay in touch one finger at a time.

How can I top that ? (Ric’s post).

Take it easy, do what they say and you’ll be better than new in a few months.

Then I guess I’m safe too L)

Glad to hear it all went well. I hope the recovery will go by quickly and that’ll you still be able to join us here from time to time despite having one limb out of commission.

I’m glad it went well.

Well glad to see you came thru it OK.
It hasnt been the same around here
With out Cha… .:).

2 days post op— update.

My arm is sore, especially if I am late on my meds!

The arm from shoulder to elbow is an abstract, free form painting of red, yellow, blue, purple and some green, vaguely reminiscent of Picasso. I expect some black to be added to the pallet, tomorrow.

There is some swelling. The circumference of the surgerized arm is 1.25 inches greater than the “normal” arm, 5 inches above the elbow.

Doc says this is all to be expected.

I wonder what he would say if it was his arm?

At least it is not bleeding into the bandages. Its not hot, not red, and not in uncontrolled pain. Nobody is talking about amputation… yet. This is all good.

I’m faithfully doing my passive range of motion exercises. My goal is another kayak trip before the river freezes for the winter.

Steve,

My wife recently had total knee replacement surgury. Her orthopedic surgeon told her to message rubbing alcohol on the bruised areas to take out the discoloration. Never heard of that before, but it sure has heck worked.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery

Jerry

Jerry, it's either that or he practiced how to stir the pot with the other arm. :/ :O :)

If steve learns how to type with either hand, then we are all in trouble…

HJ I can stir the pot with my big toe, if'n I need too.

And yes, I am feeling better. I can sleep, now, for up to 3 hours at a time. That is a huge improvement.

Jerry, I’ve always been “on’rey.”

I’m sure you are Steve, like most of us! Do your PT and hang in there buddy.
