Surgery pending

Wonderful…

I just found out that everything that I planned to do this year needs to get done before Monday evening.

Tuesday morning, I go in to have my right shoulder disarticulated, the ball scraped of all arthritis, an prosthesis fitted, the long head of the biceps undone and reattached, and one of the rotator cuff muscles tacked down.

Then the whole thing put back in place, stick in some glue of some sort and hope for the best.

The Doc says I’ll be out of commission for at least 6 weeks while it heals.

I was playing defensive tackle for the Kadena AB Falcons in Okinawa, Japan back in 1978. I had a clean shot on the quarterback. Was gonna throw him for a 15 yard loss.

Some little feathermearchant that I didn’t see laid me out.

Now, it keeps me awake at night.

Half of our club has some sort of new joints–hips, knees, and now shoulders.
No wonder we are the Geezers.
Good luck and fast healing!

I just had my ankle replaced on tuesday, get the nerve block. I had zero pain for the first 36 hours.

Sorry to hear that Steve, hope it goes well. On the plus side I hear your hospital is full of all the latest surgical equipment:

Sorry to hear that Steve. Hope you can still type while you’re healing. Good luck.

As long as Steve gets to have a serious talk with the surgeon, all will go well.  Looks like growing up in NA had more built-in hazards than good old CH; I only needed my nose adjusted - it has been out of joint ever since - after diving into the goal scrambles once too often when playing soccer.

Steve, hope surgery goes well, and you have a speedy recovery…

Steve good luck. If you were playing with trains back then you would not be going through this. Trains are safer to play with.

Just finished my INTERNET degree on orthopedic surgery and I will be doing my inter in some place called DeerPark? Never heard of it myself but wish me luck…OH and the patient as well!

Suddenly, my shoulder doesn't hurt as much.

Shut up, Rooster!

We can build him faster, stronger…

Best of luck to you.

I know how you feel, Steve.
One of my shoulders and elbow have been causing some serious pain since early this year. If I move it wrong, it just about drops me to my knees.
Of course, during the night I move it wrong numerous times, and it wakes me up. Doesn’t make for restfull sleep

I’ve not gone to the doctor about it. I know it’s going to require either long term immobilization, or surgery, which includes long term immobilization.
Can’t work with one arm, so I trudge along with the faint hope it will get better.

Somebody from Michigan cashed in my Powerball Retirement Plan Wednesday, foiling my retirement plans :open_mouth:

Let me know how things go and best of luck.
Ralph

Good luck Steve. Hope all goes well.
Of course you could have one of us scratchbuilders or kitbashers do that for you and save all kinds of time and money.
Either that or I have a friend who has his own shop and he is really good with a cutting torch and bondo.

Have a good one.

Bill

I got a cordless screwdriver and some Xactos!

Given all the stuff you’ve been through in your Naval career, this should be duck soup - good luck.

Walt

Good luck!

Come back soon.

Best of luck. Will you be able to type with the other hand while you’re recovering?

Best wishes on your surgery Steve and for a speedy recovery. I hope you have some itty bitty trains at home that you’ll be able to put on the track with one hand!

Steve
Good luck and hope you heal fast and well.
