Matt,
Thanks for the response and it’s not confusing to me anyway. The pictures with the detail in some are great!! There are a couple of shots in there that I have not seen before. This is Very Good information/education on the minor differences between the two.
Most of this info I already knew and opted out on it as I wanna “run” these cars so they are probably gonna get beat up in the process. I “did not” realize that the side door grab irons were cut into a recess though and that is something that I might want to fix. Thank you for your input and knowledge on these cars, it’s quite appreciated by me and I’m sure others that have an interest on these cars.
With that said I guess it’s time for progress and another photo dump. Lets go back to the first car that I screwed up. I couldn’t handle it just sitting there so I’m gonna fix this car first then move on to the rest that are mocked up like the second car.

I got glue all over the acrylic so I scraped the glue off and added a strip of black vinyl on top where the window cutouts will be.

I also worked on the bottom end a bit more and I’m pleased with the results. So I actually have a plan that I like for the underside now!

I decided to make a Coach baggage or possibly a smokers lounge for the second car. Still learning technique and dotting the I’s crossing the T’s

That’s all for now.
Womans work. Tell your son hes doing a great job on those superliners.
This is going to be one sharp looking set in VIA Rail colors
I am constantly in awe and amazement at what you guys can create!
why do torpedoes have windows??? (puzzled look)
Kamikazi pilots?
I’m liking that Coach Baggage. Just a note, Coach smokers were only in phase IV paint if that is how you want to paint these. If you haven’t found this one yet, it is a fantastic online resource for Superliner photos: http://www.trainweb.org/amtrakpix/locoshots/locoshots.html#superliner Here’s some other general Superliner exterior information that might be of interest. Note these apply to Superliner I cars only. Extra lower level fluting panels on early coaches A select few of the earliest coaches (lowest of the 340xx numbers) have extra fluting on the lower section on each end. The Coaches were the first to be produced and it is interesting to see some of the early design elements. First take a look at the lower level fluting on this run of the mill Superliner I Coach #34078:

Now look at these two, 34002 and 34005. Can you spot the extra fluting panels on the lower level on either end? If not look next to the Amtrak lettering on Coach 34005 (that’s phase IV paint by the way) in the bottom photo.

Less fluting on roof on early coaches and sleepers Another interesting fluting feature is that some Superliner I cars have roof fluting that does not come close to the upper windows. I’ve seen this on Coaches and Sleepers and the ones missing the fluting are always the lowest car numbers. However a very interesting aspect is that sleeper 32000 has the flutes that meet the upper windows but 32001 and up to around 32013 are missing them. Of course the best way to tell is to find a picture of the prototype car. I think some have even gotten extra fluting after rebuilds. The “missing” upper fluting sticks out on Superliner I Sleeper #32012 when compared to the two other Superliners (which both happen to be Superliner IIs) coupled to it:

Superliner I Coach, 34047 shows the “missing” upper flutes:

Just to be sure you know what I’m talking about, let’s take a look once again at coach 34078. Notice how the top fluting almost touches the upper windows:
So what are you using for the metal ‘look’ and the ribbing/corrugations?
Jerry Barnes said:Yeah, we want to know all your secrets, including how you accomplish the metal work that looks even better than the prototype.

I believe you are in the car repair business. Can you make a used, beat up automobile look as good as your model work?
Inquiring minds want to know, rooster and all!!
David, seriously, your modeling ability is absolutely superb! Excellent detail photography too.
Happy RRing,
Jerry
You guys are 'way too fussy for me…
Hey, jb, you don’t have to worry about being the most anal one on the board any more!
Amazing work, Mr. Russel!
Jerry and Jerry I PROMISE to put up a build log as soon as I’ve got the process figured out.
Matt…thanks for the pics! I’m planning on phase IV for all the cars. I’m gonna build the bread boxes and figure out the details later. Gonna take a stab at both trucks as well I believe

There you go being all secretive again
Ralph
Is it done yet?
Shawn, he’s still trying to figure out the process. Ever seen a rooster try to think? Not pretty.
(Looking good Dave)

It better be done by Christmas
Ralph Berg said:That's ok ....I would love too see the outcome as perhaps someone has a better idea on materials I could work from?
You're just trying to goad us into guessing :) Ralph
Remember this Ralph?
