Superliners in 1:29

Interesting project! Boy, those are some long cars!

Well, let’s see: Superliner dimensions are http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superliner_(railcar)
Specifications
Car length 85 ft 0 in (25.91 m)
Width 10 ft 2 in (3.10 m)
Height 16 ft 2 in (4.93 m)

If we’re talking 1:29 scale then (85ft * 12inches/foot) = 1020 inches
1020 inches /29 = 35 inches long.
And 6.6 inches tall.

I thought I covered that in the beginning Forrest.

Since were 2 pages deep on this thread I suppose I can show you where I’m at so far but I’m still learning, experimenting and trying to come up with solutions. Would also like to thank fellow LSC members Gary B and Joe S for coming through with MR mags that had the 1:87 Superliner drawings in them. Thanks Guys! Made the bottom center section removable but not the whole floor

Got one side semi mocked up and making decent progress.

Your having a little too much fun with this. Thats looking great so far.

Seems I remember 3 or 4 years ago you saying that there was no way you could build your own stuff as nice as some of the other master modelers on here. I think you underestimated your ability back then. Nice work!

Those Superliners are really looking Super. Great work, love that paint? job. what ya using ?

Decent indeed :)

Is it done yet???

Got the other side mocked up today. For Hollywood and Ralph’s sake I’ll put the two sides in a row so they don’t have a fit. I’m thinking of another plan for the trucks as I’m not really diggin’ the results I’m getting so far.

ok, why does the 1st and 3rd picture make it look like the car is warped??? the second picture looks ok…

Is it done yet???

I was trying to figure out why 3 sides?
edit cause I still want to know what the finish is cause it matches the trucks pretty well ?

It is distortion from being near to edge of lens.

Its not the train thhats warped because the track has the same. Must be the camera angle and all those staright lines below the train. Unless the track is warped making the train look that way.

Good luck, Son…

Thanks Dad! As Forrest called it already I’m playing with the camera settings …actually I’m making them with an intentional upward bow!

Got the roof finished this evening and before anyone asks I changed the light angle on the 2nd shot but here’s some updated pics and hope to make some progress this weekend and possibly start on car #2 as well while I try and figure out certain details that will be added to all the cars.
