Here are a few more pictures of my improved power switch box and my new storage for trains

Its not the greatest looking structure but for a low budget backwoods RR it does the trick. I still want to hide that gap at the rood arch.

Shawn,

Can you explain your “improved power switch box”?

…winking…

If you look at my first set of pictures I just had the outdoor metal box painted brown to blend in. I improved it by adding the wood sideing, door etc… to make it look like a run down shack.

Great idea Shawn. May I steal it ??? I have a switch box that cold use some disguising between the pine trees at Pine Summit…

My box has an opening face to reveal switches inside, so I’d have to engineer that in, but I think it could be done.

It makes a difference. I just put some lemon tyme by the switch. That was the only part I could not cover with wood. Another idea I had was to make a seperate removable box shack and use that to cover the box. Then the everything will be covered and when you need to hit the switch just remove the shack.

I’m still not understanding, what is a switch box?

Ric,
go back to page one and look at the second picture… It shows the ““switchbox”” in the right side of the picture… It’s just a plain Box, with a corrigated roof on it…,

then look at picture # 2, 3 & 4 on page 3, just abouve where you asked about the switchbox… it shows the swtich box, disgused as a shack…

It’s just the Box/cover for the electronics that contrl the switch…

Okay, got it. It controls power to a siding.

You run battery-r/c - This is a TRACK POWER discussion :D I'm pretty sure you have forgotten all about power blocks.

“I’m pretty sure you have forgotten all about power blocks.”

Haven’t forgot about them, just missed the connection. I was thinking switch as in turnout instead of electrical switch.

. Just get one of those small log cabin bird houses they sell at Micheal’s or other craft stores, and and place it over that box. I’ve done that in the past.

Got the Fn3 train out today to check clearances and the siding size at Walk landing…

SWEET JON!

Shawn,
You get the end gables closed in on your “switching shed” yet?

P.S… Ric is a battery guy and works for the CIA of LSC …
Actually Mr Golding…why have we not seen pictures of your “Buggy” as it ran this summer on the invasion?

I’ve moved on to other projects so quickly, that there is a hard time remembering the last adventure before the next one shows its face. Sad to say, some of the stuff, including the “Buggy” has not even been unpacked and yet it is needed today to run on another new layout of our club’s members. Sometimes the pressure of this job becomes overwhelming. Fun needs to be organized, scheduled and enjoyed. However, some of the best fun is always unorganized, spontaneous and not really enjoyed until you reflect back on the finer points. I’ll try to do better.

However, we are still moving down the rails.

I love that buggy!

Ric is that buggy the HLW car? Did you convert that to battery? I have one and love it although it is a little sensitive to dirty track.

Shawn,

Totally isolated from the track. Simple center off switch with choice of forward or reverse. Power is a 7.2 volt Radio Shack NiCad battery mounted on the roof rack under some of the chickens and supplies. I take it to almost everyone’s layout we have the chance to visit. There are lots of pictures of it on this and other sites. I’m a little rushed for time right now, I’ll try to dig some up for you. In the mean time, I think if you’ll check the Ottawa Valley Garden Railway Society website about the 2009 American Invasion, there are some pictures on one of the pages.

The weather is finally cooperating and it’s a beautiful summer morning so my son and I decided to do a bit of railfanning on the CVRR. As we were walking the line we heard the rumble of a local pulling tomato’s,brussel sprouts , green beans, yellow squash and cucumbers freshly picked from the garden. From the looks of the lower picture it appears our farmers need to harvest some parsley and chives as well.

We continued our trek eastward towards the Washington St. station and later that morning caught the same engine returning from dropping it’s load of produce and now pulling a mixed freight of empties.

We got the shots and quickly jumped in the car and headed north. We soon caught it again on the northern end of the line. I’t was getting hot and we got some shots so we headed home.
