Suggestions for Model Ship Suppliers?

So I posted on my Snow Dozer thread that PSME is currently not taking orders. Some of the materials I wanted to order from him, I’m having a hard time locating alternate sources. I’m guessing that model ship builders would use similar details, I thought my searches should start there.

Any suggestions for websites/online stores to look at?

I’m looking specifically 0.018" or 0.021"wire rope (7x7 strand preferred), Eyehooks, pulleys, and end cap hooks, and chain shackles. Thoughts?

I was able to find chain shackles.

Cloverhouse.com, located in Veradale, WA, next door to Spokane. All kinds of useful railroady scratch building stuff. Stumbled across this in Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette.

Where the heck is that Steve. That’s one is new to me

Only a PO Box given.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. It seems easy to find 1x7 stranded wire in the size I’m looking for. Grainger has 1x7 stranded wire pretty cheap. The data sheets on the 1x7 wire say that has 16# test, so I would imagine that it should hold a light piece of brass…(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif) For 100’ of 0.021" 1x7 Grainger wants $9.69

Finding the sources of pulleys and shackles has proven a bit harder.

Now I think found something in the reasonably priced range… Fishing wire. 7x7 strand, 0.024", 16’ total for $10.49

I knew that there was some sort of ‘regular’ use for this product.

Steve,

I saw those pulleys as well, but I need more ‘plain’ pulleys. In other words, just the grooved round part. I do need a few hanging pulleys. This is when I wished I had a metal lathe.

Here’s a few shackles.

I’m adding to this thread as a way to keep track myself!

More pulleys

Pulley Wheels

This is too cool to pass up… 1/32 scale or 1/24 scale…

Ive bought from most of the above suppliers. If you need some custom work you might get ahold of Umi at Rubber Baby Tugboat Bumpers. She might be able to help you out.

I found some mini shackles, but man they are pricey. They are 1:50 scale, so I’m not sure what the real size is. Someone is making them that small so its likely that I might be able to find some bigger ones.

And pulleys too. http://www.dadscats.com/ycc%20models.html

As I was looking for shackles again, I thought to look at military or armour modeling. 1:24 and 1:34 scale is pretty close to 1:29. Shapeways also has some 3D prints of shackles, but I was hoping to have one a bit stronger.

If you search for “7 strand bead stringing wire”, you will find lots of sources.

Tom

Tom,
I think that stuff is 1x7 wire. I’m looking for 7x7 wire. I found some 1x7 wire today at the big box store being sold as downrigger wire. That’s my backup, but since I found the 7x7 wire, I’m going to try and find that first.

I had a duh moment when I was thinking about lifting hooks. Just grab some jewelry hooks. They should be about the right size. And after calling a couple model crane auppliers, I think the 1:50 scale shackles will work if I get the 100 to 200 ton range.

Craig, why didn’t ya say you were looking for fishing leader?
