Suggestions for Model Ship Suppliers?

Tom, I think that stuff is 1x7 wire. I’m looking for 7x7 wire. I found some 1x7 wire today at the big box store being sold as downrigger wire. That’s my backup, but since I found the 7x7 wire, I’m going to try and find that first. I had a duh moment when I was thinking about lifting hooks. Just grab some jewelry hooks. They should be about the right size. And after calling a couple model crane auppliers, I think the 1:50 scale shackles will work if I get the 100 to 200 ton range.

Now I understand what you are looking for.

This should be the same as 49 strand beading wire.

It is available in numerous sizes and colors.

I am not trying to change our mind. It is another source for a similar product.

Here is one supplier of beading wire: http://www.firemountaingems.com/shop/steel-beading_wire-49_strand_string-0.024_beadwire_width?sortby=bestmatch&itemsperpage=48

They supply Accu-Flex. There are several other manufacturers from different suppliers.

So I ran down to Jo-ann’s this evening and returned with some 7x7 stranded wire that is 0.018", lots of chain, and a few ideas. I need some opinions. Thoughts?

Option 1

Option 2. The hook looks okay but way oversized. I’m sure that I can find a smaller jewelry hook. This is a 11mm hook.

Here’s the shackles I found from YCC Models. I’m going to contact them to find out the actual dimensions of each size.

There is a FB group I follow called Modeler’s Guild that posted a shackle how-to video a couple months ago. I wish I had saved the link now. I can’t seem to get back to it, but I did find this thread on another forum:
