Stretched bachmann log cars

I finally got around to finishing my bachmann log cars. To me they were too short so awhile back I bought some castings from from nonsuch car foundries to make them longer. The castings are nice and match the color pretty close. It requires cutting the car at a specific location and disassembly but they go together easily. I added some strapping to cover the joints. The cars do need some more weathering but that will come later.

I like the results.

Terry

I like the results, too.

Is Nonesuchcf.com still in business? Their website does not compute.

great!!! They would look good behind my shay here in the adirondack mountians.

They look pretty good , the train of them is impressive .

Mike

They looks much better longer.

Steve, Nonesuch Car and Foundry is all I have. When I ordered them he was hard to get ahold of. The instructions that were sent have the address both online and physical blacked out. All I can see is that they are or were from Oregon. Sorry I couldn’t help more.

Terry

Nice job, but you could build them up just as many Logging Operations did. 3 8x8 or 10x10s, a bolster and a bunk; and you are set to move logs. Terry, you need to use a background for your first Picture, the yellow hose does take some thing from the fine looking log car!

Paul

I’m sure others have looked for Nonesuch on the WEB with the same results I got - nothing! Bummer. OK, How about sharing the instruction sheet. Maybe we could resurrect the kit? Or you could do that. A good build article for this form.

Paul

Argh! I was reconciled to using my short Bachmann log cars until I saw Terry’s excellent work. Sharing the instruction sheet would be a great start. Using 3 timbers to extend the cars with Terry’s solution of using straps to hide the cuts is a terrific idea. Great work Terry.

Found the photos of the "how-to." This should make it a lot easier to duplicate.

Useful link Steve .

Martyn’s quite keen on extending them and had been bothered about the joints .

He ain’t now , pal .

Ta,

Mike

All credit goes to Terry.

Oh , gawd , put me bloody foot in it again .

Sorry ,Terry

and thanks ,

Mike and Martyn

I have thought about extending my log cars for a while. I saw on another forum where a gentleman cast sections to extend the cars. I think the longer cars do look a lot better. Nice job. And the strapping is a great idea to hide the joints.

The short log cars represent an Eastern North American length of car, due to the type of logging usually found in the East.

Logging on the West Coast usually involved longer logs.

Terry; I see you have found that Kadee couplers improve the look of the cars. For those that would like the couplers to match the colour of the car, use the #920’s, they only need a thin shim, to obtain the proper height., and mounting with the accompanying screws works well, using the centre and end holes; pre-drilling with the proper drill size, allows the screws to self-tap.

Of course some would find that “Link’n Pin” look great too.

I happen to have about two dozen of them, which I divide into two trains. Twelve loads, and twelve empties.

Someone else mentioned that they make a great car to go with a geared loco, in a logging operation…and at a reasonable price.

Nice job, Terry.

That is a good looking train Terry. Nice job on stretching those cars, you can’t even tell by looking at them.

one of these is on my winter build list, skeleton car 1/29th scale with either g or 0 gauge trucks.

Looks great, that piece wouldn’t be that hard to 3dprint and then make a new master and cast them btw…

I still have 5 of the castings…

Terry

Terry, would you part with the castings?

David, I don’t think so. I still want to do more cars.

I’d be curious to know if nonesuch car and foundry exists anymore and if they don’t if I am able to make the part?
