Streamliners at Spencer

I have tons of photos and videos for you vintage diesel fans from the Streamliners at Spencer event at the North Carolina Transportation Museum.

I’ll start off with a video of the CN Alco FPA-4.
I’ve been real busy, so I’ll probably be adding photos and videos for the next month or so.

Been watching them on FB … Question Ralph…How come there so much smoke on starting to roll?.

Need a tune up maybe?? lol. Keep them coming…

Gee, I thought it was just getting up a good head of steam. It signaled it was starting to move forward and then it sat and simmered for a while.

Oh, wait! Its a diesel. So, was it Alco’s intention for its products to mimic steam locomotives, so the steam freaks would accept them?

And its an FP, so why is it hauling freight cars?

They had a limited amount of track to run at the museum, and a boatload of operable engines.
It may have pulled the passenger train on one of the 4 days of the event.
They switched engines frequently so that every day would be different.

Alcos are pretty well known as “smokers”.
I’m sure it has something to do with the design of the diesel engine.
The older they get, the more they smoke
Ralph

But smoking isn’t supposed to be good for ya.

Did you see the flivver drive by on the road @ counter 19? Or were you watching the loco.

Good catch, JB. Didn’t notice it until you pointed it out

Next up, the Juniata Terminal excursion. This was a $1000 a head excursion from Charlotte, NC. to Spencer, NC.
The PRR E8 is one of the former Conrail OCS units.
The Observation car is quite historic, having carried several Presidents. It also carried JFK’s body.

Yea, cool, but ditch lights on an E8 just doesn’t seam right to me. Darn FRA regulations…

The Reading RR Historical group has a couple of those units. Wonder why they didn’t make it down to that?
