Strasburg Railroad

On the way home from ECLSTS I made a quick stop at the Strassburg Railroad. My timing was perfect to catch the 3:00 train hooking up at the station and then returning at Cherry Hill.

Taking water at Strasburg Station…

The weather and light was perfect. These pictures remind my how much better my DSLR is than the crappy point-and-shoot I’ve fallen in love with

Cherry Hill station looks a lot better without the criminal element leaning all over it…

Leaving the grove after a station stop…

I was all alone at Cherry Hill. Not a sound other than birds. Such a great view even without the train. Wish I could have stayed.

Short video to come.

And a great 2 minute video. Watch it full screen.

Just like two years ago Penny and I were on the train!

I heard you call out but your car had passed before I could look! It’s in the video if you listen close.

Beautiful train

Good video! Too bad you misspelled Strasburg in your video opening title. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

Did a great “road test” of number 90 for Road & Track Magazine in 2001, spending a couple of days hanging around the place with the owner and all. Great experience. I have photos–on 35 mm film, which says a lot about where photography has gone since then.

Strasburg is one cool RR. My wife and I visited there a few years back and stayed a night at the caboose motel.

Strasburg can serve as a model for those who are limited in their space for a garden RR.

Are you sure? Better double check. It is misspelled in my first post though (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)

I was so distraught that Joe thought he caught a VERY IMPORTANT and non existent spelling error that I couldn’t even bring myself to watch the video Jon. The locals really don’t pronounce it like it is spelled though. For those that may not know the area the true order Amish have the Grey buggys that are lowered with the 48" wheels.

Regardless of what chickens**t says, I knew I saw it spelled with two “S’s” somewhere! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

Check the Passcar Joe

It does have two S’s … one before the ‘T’ and one after the ‘A’

Dave,

I KNOW it’s spelled “Strasburg”. I saw it spelled “Strassburg”. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)

Perhaps you heard it pronounced that way Mr Zullo as it’s close in pronunciation. However it would have been properly spelled with an E after the B with a German Dutch umlaut over the E but only after B.

It’s cool to see the steamer. I was told they were running a diesel for the train trips and I was really sad. :frowning: Great pics and video. Thanks!

Yea, they were running a diesel, this one:

Got to see the M-10 leave the station on Thursday before ECLSTS. I had only seen that unit in a pencil sketch on the wall at Ken’s house. Very intriguing unit and fantastic sound.

Ric,

Is M-10 direct diesel drive or diesel/electric?
