I was at my local Lowes yesterday and came across this stuff. I think its called stone mosaic -split face (thats what it says on the back) Its all natrual stone and would work great for stone foundations, stone walls etc… I picked up two sheets and going to to use it for walls on buildings and as retaining walls. It can also be painted if you want to make it more natural. You can take each individual stone out. Each block is 3/4 inch long and just under 1/2 inch wide.
Shawn,
I saw them using something like that on one of those home improvement shows and had the same thought.
How large is the sheet and how much was it ?
Ralph
Ralph one sheet is 1ft by 1ft. Cost was 14 and change. A little expensive if doing your counter tops or walls in the house. But for our purpose its not too bad. Easier then making your own.
I believe the Last issue of Garden Railways had this idea in it and the guy used the tiles to make a low retaining wall. A good idea that looks nice.
I picked up some of those a few years ago in a couple different colors. Have only used a few of them so far, but plan to do more when the right project comes along.
I also saw something similar at HD recently, that had longer, narrower stone strips. I want to get some of those to use over doors and windows, among other things.
Those are the same ones i used for the foundation of my handcar shed. I also glued them to some treated 2x4 and made bridge pillars out of them. They look great. Glued them on with PL400 and grouted the gaps, added a little weathering .There are a couple of pictures in the test forum of my handcar shed and you can see the foundation.
Here are the same ones used on a engine house i am buildinghttp://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/dan_moore/_forumfiles/imgenginehouse1jpg.JPGhttp://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/dan_moore/_forumfiles/imgenginehouse2jpg.JPG
Very nice Dan. I like that.
Glad you got the pictures figured out.

Dan that engine house looks great. I want to build a new one for my line. Do you have any more shots of that? Would love to see more.
That’s the ticket! I have been trying to figure out what to use for a bridge abutment! Nice find Shawn!

Bart Salmons said:Unless you want to do a lot of cutting it would be difficult to do a round pit, but an octagon could be done. I wonder if there is a prototype for that ?

This is really newt stuff.
I bet theres a little bit of flex to it…at least the tiles I have seen used on DIY shows have…need to get some and speriment a bit…
