Steam in New England

Here is a video from Yesterday when I visited Jeff’s Rockwall Canyon Railway in Southern New Hampshire. He has a beautiful wooded setting and lots of track. The line is a dog bone loop, big loop at one end with a yard, raised which makes a great steamup bay. the other end loops around a mine with some sidings for swiching. a second switch back siding offers some more fun along the way. His daughters were having fun train watching and running the diesel on one of the sidings. Jeff and his lovely wife offered a barbeque lunch as well.

Well Ive been to a couple other steamups and have failed to post them here so here goes…

John, also in southern New Hampshire hosted us on August 1rst. he has a large loop raised to waist height and a seperate steamup bay connected by a “Y” and two draw bridges. John is a 7/8" scale guy so there is plenty of clearance for big stuff and generous curves. Again he served a great Barbeque. We had a few more folks than yesterday but my batteries died and I didnt get film of everyone.

And Mike’s Place in Northeast Massachusetts. He has a very nice, solid and smooth raised layout looping around his back yard. He is British and a fan of British mainline stuff. It was raining hard earlier in the morning and he sent an email cancelling. I have to drive pretty far and was already on the road so I missed it. when I arrived another of the die hard steamers in the area had arrived and was running…so we carried on! We were a small group and got lots of track time.

Great videos Eric. Thank you very much for sharing. I enjoyed them.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Me too!

Great job on these videos Eric, and thanks again for coming to my open house! It’s nice to see Mike’s layout, I look forward to seeing it in person next time if the weather holds up.

As always, we greatly aappreciate your work in organizing our steam up calendar and persistent email coordination.

Great way to start my morning.

some vintage video from my Winnegance and Quebec Railway. Found in the attic of an old farmhouse.

Well actually, I got a new video camera and was playing with it but forgot to turn on the external mic(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif). thought the scenes without sound looked like old train fan movies.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Now that was KEWL!

All that’s missin is some honky tonk piano playing in the background…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

WOW, Eric! Can I move in with you? Your general Store looks great!(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Ron, the place next door is for sale! Easy enough to extend the track to “your” new place! They want a lot in Maine dollars but probably not bad for the rest of the country. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Well you never know.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Or maybe a banjo…(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif) (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

I really like the old fashion affect. Im thinking a little banjo music in the background.

Very cool Eric. It looked mighty realistic!

Great videos Eric! At about the 5min mark in Jeff’s layout video you have a cab shot of your locomotive. It’s really bouncing around! Is this because it’s hitting spike heads or because it working the grade right there? Or does it always do that?

The boat on your flat has defiantly logged more miles on rail than it could ever hope to see in the water now. Speaking of great car loads, how about that last train in the second video? Every car was a new experience. I loved the biplane load, and what was going on with the miniature buildings on the one flat? Was there a model railroad built on them? Very neat.

Thanks for posting.

Nice videos Eric the camera angles really make them.

On the steam up at Johns place video

I wonder if that Biplane is destined for the Owls Head museum in Maine?

Also at the 4:18 mark did anyone notice what looks to be a train yard diorama on the flat car?

here is another little video I shot using my new video camera…I managed to get sound most of the time. I have a little external mike with a switch…it only works when the switch is turned on…oh and when it has a functioning battery(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

Wow, another great video Eric.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Eric,

You make wonderful videos! I never tire of watching your RR. You know how to run at prototypical speeds and your RR is super realistic. Very well done.

Were did the boat go???

Gone Fishin! Neither boats nor trains stay in one place for long!
