Large Scale Central

Springfield ,Ma.show

Hi Fellow Trainiacs,
The only G scale layout at the Springfield, Ma train show is my group which is a combined effort between the Mohegan & Pequot Model RR Club and the Central Connecticut G Gaugers Modular Group. The layout will be 36’ X 56’ and has had some major changes in the last several years. A transfer table, a turntable and an engine servicing facility have been added. The lift bridge has had a new motor and gearbox installed. So stop by and see us in Area #84 which is in the middle of the Young Bldg.
January 25th and 26th at the Eastern States Exposition aka the Big E!!!

We (less Chocolate Myers from RCR ) will be there around 11am

The show is only days away and I’m really looking forward to it. I have my wish list in one hand and dollars in the other. Last year was good for “G” but a few years back it was scarce… probably all bought up by Sean Mc and his cohort Dan before I got there. LOL

The lift bridge Bob Mac. spoke of is an incredible sight to behold. Bob will the coal dump trestle setup be there? That is another wonder to behold.

I just might have to print out one of the forum badges to wear to the show.

Todd

The coal tipple and the lift bridge have been in maintenance, but I expect that both and maybe the ice house will be there.

I think we should all meet around 2pm and overwhelm the masses!

2pm works for me, that will give us time to wander around.

Just a FYI, there are snow showers in the forecast for Saturday.

I heard the same1-3 inches depending where the heavier bands set up. I hope it starts a little later then what they are saying. Might be a longer drive ugh…

I’m not sure what my schedule is, but I’ll try and be by the module group on the hour while I’m there.

This is New England and snow is part of it!

best show i have ever gone to had to drive in tractor trailer truck tracks to get there

there was 14 in. plus. lots of room to move around no pushing or shoving or baby carriages to run you over.

Many years ago I was the over night security guy. Used to Spend the night in The Better living center In The Back of my truck. at that time we only took half of the better living center. I remember opening one of the overhead doors on Saturday morning to gout to get breakfast and finding about 18" of snow. by the time we opened it had been all cleared away and the following day was in the upper 50"s outside. New England weather cannot be predicted. See you there- Stop by the CV Historical Society booth and say hi.

AL P.

Forecast is not really calling for much. I don’t mind driving in the snow its just not fun when you have over 2.5 hr drive and it turns into 5 hours because of snow. My wife and kids decided to take a ride with me. We should be on the road by 7 and hopping to be their by 10 or so.

We get there mid afternoon today and be there all weekend. Will try to stop by the CT module layout at 2 on Sat.

There are several Large Scale displays and layouts that should be at the show but scartered amongst the 4 buildings.

Stan

I’m still on the fence about driving up. Haven’t been feeling to great this week, but it would be nice to see some old friends and meet some new ones face-to-face. If I go up Saturday it will be very early to get a close parking space.

If you are new to this show, besides the admission price there is also a charge for parking. It is a huge lot and fills up fast and can be a very long walk to warmth on a cold January day!

I’d love to be there & see you guys again. ECLSTS though.

I only stayed for three hours my wife kept getting bad reactions from the perfumes and chemical smells. Sorry I didn’t get to meet up with most of yas. I did see Jon and Eric Shade. Overall the show was not my cup of tea. Not much in g scale and what they had, I really didn’t have an interest in (USA trains smaller scales). I like the 7/8th layout that was neat. I think it would have been better if they kept the scales together and have the layouts separate from the dealers. Then you wont have to fight the crowds to get from one end to the other. It was way to crowded for me. They had some tin plated stuff and clockwork but way overpriced. Looking forward to Scranton Steamup and then York.

I stuck it out for the “meet”, but I was reminded why I haven’t been back in several years - too big and too crowded for me. One highlight was running into an old friend from the FEBT who gave me a narration of each of the hundreds of unpublished EBT photos at one table, It was good to see some LSC friends again - got to finally meet Shawn McG after missing him several times at Bob’s - also got to put a face to the name Cape Cod Todd.

But I agree with Shawn - Scranton and York are much better venues for socializing.

I went in 2010 and2011, that was enough for me. and it only takes me 25 mins. to get there. Mostly HO stuff.
