Spring

Yea, I’m pondering making the carrier out of aluminum just to save weight on the carrier!

Ken,
It sounds great. Gotta get me some sound one of these days

I don't know how much difference that will make as heavy as this thing is. I'm using some 3/4" plywood I had left over from rebuilding the shed roof. Still trying to figure out how I want to arrange the handle. I did cut down on the height of the sides to save a little weight and used some acrylic for one of the ends that doubles as a ramp.

Ralph,

The PB9 from Phoenix is about the same price I was paying for the Sierra. The only problem I ran into was the chuff unit on the engine wasn’t working, so I had to use a reed switch and magnets on one of the tender axles. I had the sound turned all the way up for the video.

No fancy sound, but authentic squeaking

It looks like summer by you guys. Our trees are just starting to bud. No green on them yet. Some of the plants on the RR are coming up. The only flowers that are out are the trut lilleys.

Nice Ken.

Glad you got outside to run. Place looks great!

We’ve had enough rain and wind around here for everyone. Thoughts of running outside are put off for awhile.

Remind me again your r/c control and sound system on the K.

The last week has been pretty miserable with rain and cold, but Sunday turned out beautiful, so I had to get out there and run it.

The RC is RCS from Don Sweet and the sound is a PB9 from Phoenix. Don set it all up and then shipped it to me. The battery is a 5600mah, 14.4v Lion from Cordless renovations. Picked it all up, or should say ordered most of it at the East Coast show.

Nice Videos of the railroad, Ken…

Got a picture of the magnet/switch setup? I'm trying to get mine to work and cant figure out the right distance/magnets/mounting, etc

The distance you’ll probably have to make adjustments too, while the sound is on. You’ll notice in the video, the chuff cuts out once in awhile. This is caused by too much side to side play between the axle and the truck. I need to place a bushing or two on that particular axle to keep that distance correct. The reed switch itself is just gooped to a piece of styrene with some speaker wire soldered to the ends. On the Phoenix the wires are screwed onto terminals 10 and 11. (on the PB9) I’ve also ordered a headlight for the tender from Ozark(197 Barrel type headlight w/ visor Qty: 1 - $5.68) , and placed an order for about 50 white 3mm LED’s so I can replace the red ones in the front marker lites. (I don’t need 50, that was how they came, so Ralph is getting 25 of them since he steered me to the site that had them)

Sundays are very quiet in the Pacolet Valley. Passenger service runs a limited schedule and very few inbound freights are scheduled. The crews are taking advantage of the slow time to move some empties back down the mountain to the interchange yard.

The new 45 Ton switch engine awaits orders. The PVRR bought the switcher when another RR canceled it’s order. The paint shop reports it’s pretty booked, so it might be some time before the 45T receives it’s livery colors.

Ralph the RR is really starting to look nice.

Get to agree with Shawn. Really looking good

Thanks Guys. Parts are lookin pretty decent. Other parts still got a way to go. Ralph The boys dropped their empties and picked up two Reefers and a Boxcar coming back up the mountain.

Got the marker lites changed around to white LEDS, and added a headlite to the tender.

It’s still Spring, but it was 92 degrees in the shade. The engineer pulls the Coaches out of the Yard.

An extra coach is run today. It’s Sunday and the Sunny View Line doesn’t run. So the PVRR extends it’s route and makes the SVL stops.

Looks good Ralph. Must be nice to have sunshine. We’ve had rain here for two weeks, and no end in sight. My grass is so tall I need to bag it when cut but to wet to use the bagger. Plants are looking good though.

Looking good Ralph. I needed to see some pictures of nice weather. Like Jon its been a rainy spring.
