Spring

Spring is here and Rooster told me at York how much he appreciates these early Spring photos. Flowers are starting to pop up on the GRR.

Out in the yard, color is past it’s prime. But we still have a few things to look at.

Also did a lot of work on the GRR and even ran a train. But didn’t take the time to take many pictures. I dug up some moss up in the woods. This spot under the walk is hard to access and mostly shady. Eventually there will be some buildings here. But until then, hopefully the moss will squeeze out the weeds.

Did a lot of testing with the Annie on the outer loop and new sidings. Everything went fine. Trains were limited to one boxcar on the SVL. The MOW crew failed to clear all the vegetation from the main line. Wheels became quite slick and it caused some problems on the grade.

A few tentative snowdrops have popped up in our front (south-facing) yard. I went down the backyard today; nothing much stirring, and the ground is still squishy, so I don’t want to do much tromping around for fear of damaging the grass. The layout appears to have survived well.
We’ll see how things progress in the next couple of weeks.

Very nice pics Ralph: they certainly capture Spring at its best.

Personally Spring is my favorite time of year; everything bursting onto life and the glorious spectrum of colors to be seen.

I tell ya what: it makes ya enjoy running trains even more so. lol

I knew I should have moved to NC. Your spring weather arrives so much earlier. I still have well over a month to see what you already have. Always love seeing your Spring pictures. And after this past winter they are even better.

It’s great seeing Spring flowers. Wanna trade for my weeds? Those grow good too!

Hey, my bushes are covered in white, too!!! :stuck_out_tongue: A few more weeks, perhaps… Later, K

Thanks Ralph

Nice preview of what I can look forward to in about 3 weeks

Yesterday turned out very nice in the afternoon as well as this morning temps in the 60’s and cloudy. Heavy rain and thunderstorms moved in. After that a front came through and dropped the temps into the mid 30’s and now its snowing. Why?

Why?
Because it can.

Let it try in August though. It would be welcome.

Spposed to be 45F and raining, today.

I guess Glow Ball War Ming has struck, here in beautiful downtown Deer Park, because it is sunny and 55F, on it’s way to 60+.

No brag, just fact.

Thanks Ralph!

Spring is here.

Ralph,

Where in N.C. is your home?, coastal or inland or in the mountains? After this last winter in northern Ohio we’re ready to start looking for someplace warmer!

Walt

Walter,
Southern mountains. We do get snow and it does get cold.
Ralph

We had a cold morning of rain but the ridge tops by my house got about 1/2 inch snow. Took me by suprise when I woke up and saw the ridge tops white.

Mowed the grass for the third time. Shorts, no shirt
Bad news is the rider is still not running and I’m mowing about 2 acres with a non-propelled 22 inch mower =(
Ralph

2 acres? Around here that is called a field and the stuff growing in it is Hay. Did you get this idea from AndyC? He refuses to replant the soybeans and then complains about having to cut so much.

I left 3 acres in trees. I mow the state ROW too, which is about 1800 feet by 15 feet.
I walk up through the woods and back down along the road. The state only cuts it about twice a season and I’d be walking through
waist high grass if I’d wait for them to cut it.

Unlike Andy, my GRR is in a compact area in front of the house. The boss says if I want more space, I have to move the GRR to the woods
behind the house. Cutting trees and pulling stumps doesn’t sound like fun to me

Why cut? Hang elevated roadbed from the trees !
