It is as cold as a Witch’s anatomy today, but the geese have been flying for about 2 weeks and yesterday, I noticed about 100 white pelicans in the cove right outside the marina. Its happening guys, but it is a little slow.
You are always the first to declare Spring
Around here I noticed last week that I can actually get home a few minutes before sunset and there is a half-hour or more of light left. That is very encouraging. If the yard wasn’t such a mud bog I could do something outside.
We have 12+ inches of snow forecast for Thursday/Friday so I’m not planning on planting anything quite yet.
Rick,
I think we are going to have snow in Omaha till about the middle of July.
Don
I knew Spring was coming, when I woke up this morning to find a dusting of snow everywhere… If Spring wasn’t coming, it would have been a few inches of snow…

Got 4 inches of “light, scattered flurries” in an hour last night. About 6 inches total.
Ric Golding said:Ric, I saw a chicken with a capon. Still trying to figure out if that means 8 more weeks of winter or that I should bring my Speedo thermals to the ECLSTS. LAO

HA!
Looks like this Saturday is going to be in the 50’s and sunny! I plan on pouring some road bed and working on the tiki bar!
Cranked up the stream to the pond, yesterday. Bike rides planned again this weekend, since temps are in the 50’s. Daybreak is coming way before 6 am and it is still light after 6 pm. Daylight savings is like what, next week? Its coming on fast.

Well its going to be nice this weekend starting today so will run trains and work on the layout. Only 2 days that I could not see the rails but the plow took care of that. and =) produces Later RJD
Same here. Great weekend forecast.
And for the first time in months, sun without wind.
The next 3 days I’ll be painting models and doing the roadbed and trackwork for the recent layout changes.
Ralph
I have to look and see if the poppies have sprouted. We might get a dusting on Saturday. It was too cool to work on the project and too windy to work on the layout. We’ll see today.
Some bulbs have started to poke out of the ground already. Sure sign of spring here!
Alas, the only thing popping out of the ground here is my track. I’ve got some nasty frost-heave issues on my lower reverse loop. I think that’s the loop on which I just used garden stakes instead of rebar to hold the PVC subroadbed in place, and evidently it’s got a much greater tendency to push back out. Probably pull the track, suck up the ballast, replace the rods with proper rebar, and reset everything once the ground thaws. Not my first choice for springtime activity, but my bridges are now sitting a full 1" above their support piers.
Later,
K
