Shawn, Your RR is looking nice. I’m still working on the weeds. Ralph

Ralph,

Is there a time when you expect not to work on weeds? Please tell me your secret. I have achieved no weeds in the basement, but outside we call it part of the landscaping. Aren’t weeds just undomesticated plants?

Looks great guys!

Around here we have weeds that can swallow a house. You never stop. This entire area was once covered in Kudzu. Took years to get rid of it. Still have to fight it back from the neighboring property every year. Ralph

Kudzu is one of those things that creates nightmares. I can’t imagine having to deal with that. I feel certain you would have to start in the Winter time, just to get a head start. You’ve done a wonderful job, my hat is off to you.

Ralph I just can’t understand why all that nice, very attractive kudzu-free land has no tracks on it!

Me neither, there's gotta be something wrong with that picture! ;) :O Who would want to cut grass instead of building and running a railroad? :D And dreaming about private cars with all that room to place them on? Sheesh, hard to believe!

I saved that little spot for a future expansion. Have to leave myself something to do when I retire  This little beauty is a bargan, $22,000. Everyone should have one. Nothing wrong with dreamin’

My wife and I made a garden of all native plants–not where the train runs, but elsewhere. It was and is surprisingly hard to do–garden centers tend to focus on showy hybrids and imports. Native plants are often treated as weeds. But we managed to find a lot of native plants and trees that work well together, and the advantage is you end up with practically zero maintenance.

Kudzu shows up in our area–in summer there are whole sections of woods covered in kudzu. But the winters slow it down enough so it’s not the terrible problem it is further south

Mike,

Do you have pictures of this area?

We have a lot of areas around here (not in our yard) in natural prairie grass and amazed as to how tall it can get, if not harvested each year. Old accounts reference to it being over 6 feet tall. Out for a bike ride yesterday and saw dead stalks on top with new green growth further down in the stalk, but brown on the top foot. Lightning and prairie fires kept it under control. And there are even controlled burns in some of these areas, today.

These Johnny Jump Ups are wild flowers. Although not native to North America, they have been here for many generations. We’ve never planted any, but they pop up everywhere.

Morning Glory also comes up everywhere. Spreads almost as fast as Kudzu, but easier to pull and get rid of. Various other vines pop up and take over if you let them. I have some vines over in a tree line that have orange trumpet shaped flowers. Some of these are so old the vines are nearly as big around as my leg. I also have Muscadine grapes growing all through the woods. Most are so high in the trees…bird and squirrel food. Just last week we found a vine growing along one of the fences. Hopefully it will produce a few grapes. Native Mountain Laurel grows all through the woods. It is just starting to bloom and should be looking good in another week. Ralph

Hey Ralph did you know your track has been pulled apart by vandal’s or highway men or worse yet Train robbers??? That’s a train wreck lookin for a place to happin" LOL The Regal P.S. tomorrow nite is LIVE chat nite on my channel 7-10pm MST Thought I was gonna have some footage to show on my runnin my trains LIVE on the channel yesterday but when I went in to look at and ready them for the show nothing there!!! Dang it anyway The Regal

Track crew has been lazy. The rail clamps arrived to join that section a week ago.
But it needs some grading work also.
The foreman seems to think there is no hurry completing the siding, as the depot hasn’t been built yet.
The President wants it finished so trains can pass.
Ralph

Well, can’t oblige with all kinds of flowers but …

We have a Krok in the lake and they still show up, blooming nerve! Everything is at least three weeks behind the standard development, still get frost warnings for our region. But … once she starts firing up, watch out! I can hardly wait, there’s track to be installed!

Nearly everything here will be blooming, at some point. There are Poppys,Lark Spurs and several types of wild flowers.

These are just starting to bloom. So far we have white, pink, purple and yellow.

I was thinking the same thing! I would be outta control with that kind of land, I could build a scale viaduct to the tee....Beautiful property Ralph! This thread is just getting good....pictures, pictures, pictures.... I thank all the contributors so far and ask them to think about what we have all built and posted here under (Tracks Trestles, Modeling, Rolling Stock, etc). The best part is seeing our creations outdoors in this awesome hobby. We have many neat modelers here and hurdles to jump with every season of the year but spring and fall are my favorite I believe. Mr Golding....I have yet to see a picture......so I feel a pic of the buggy is in order? March is considered Spring in PA and your recent tour with the buggy was excellent! Preferably with a close up of the chickens!!! Thanks again guy's ;)

Tis early morning on the first day of our Spring 09 OPs Session. Who knows what the weekend will bring. I’m going to have to go back and figure out what David Russell is refering to. ( been kinda busy prepping for the ops weeeknd) This is “Pin Oak” with “KV Cabins” in the back ground.

Clean up of pin oak trash is yet to be done, once the dew has dried. This is a daily cleanup this time of year.
