Sometimes it just takes a while. Bravo Zulu, Specialist Sabo

Requiem in Pacem, brave Soldier.

Four decades after the action near the Se San River in Cambodia on May 10, 1970, US Army Specialist Leslie Sabo Junior of Bravo Company, Third of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, will receive the Medal of Honor, posthumously.

Thanks Steve,
Good information.

Long, long overdue. It’s about time that the Viet Nam veterans get thier long overdue respect. I was one of the last draftees during the Viet Nam war. I was fortunate enough to not have to go there. Two of my friends died there, and quite a few got shot up. One of them, after being in a body cast for a year, was spit upon by a lady and called a “baby killer”. To this day, he says the pain she inflicted was far worse than the shrapnel wounds. I remember the day I got out of the service. The first thing I did was go into the nearest restroom and ditch my uniform. I was tired of the stares and ridicule. Fortunately, our Veterans today are treated (by the general public anyways) with the respect that they deserve.

Steve, thanks for sharing this!

It wasn’t my war, but it was my country.

Thanks Steve.

Thank you for posting this Steve. I was spit on when I arrived at San Franscisco Intl. Four of us confronted the SOB and he took offf running. I am also damn proud of my uniform AND still have it! I have 22 of my buddies on “The Wall”.

Somehow I miss the rail related theme in this thread, unless it is the “badly derailed adventure” way back when.

That link’s one helluva story, Steve. Thanks for posting. You’re right, it’s not rail related, Hans-Jeorg, but a lot of the guys here will be very glad to hear that this story is being told, and this brave hero is being recognized at last.

Band of brothers.

Total agreement here.

Sigh.

No surprise, though.

You deserve a backrub, Steve.

Yeah, that should relax him, especially if it's a nice little Asian girl applying it. :P :P

Steve,

Thank you for posting this. Clarksville Tennessee, where I live, borders on 2/3 of Fort Campbell, home of the 101st Screaming Eagles division.

The young men who sacrificed then and now deserve all our respect and admiration.

Our local RR club goes out of its way to provide a chance for these guys to “unwind” after their third and fourth tours of duty protecting our country. The 101st is just recently back from Afghanistan. We have several active duty soldiers who enjoy our club and we go out of our way to make them feel welcome.

Our local Catholic Church also has weekly prayer remembrances for those lost in action in our recent wars, some of which are parishioners with young families left behind.

We must always honor and remember our vets.

Thank you again for this much appreciated post.

What you said.

Yeah John, sadly. Pretty insensitive.

Long overdue recognition for this fallen comrade, shame it took to much time but is now done.

Too bad there some that never faced what we did long ago and had to go through public eyes for most of us were just doing our duty.

I really don’t have much of anything to say about those who do not understand and make not so nice comments. They are NOT my friend ever.

Thanks guys for the comments regarding some “insensitive” remarks made by an individual on this forum. Those who served during that war, understand completely what this award means. Those that DID NOT serve, seem to think this was a joke. Very pathetic!:frowning:

Gary most of us know better then to expect anything other from that individual:( Kudos to those who fought to bring us democracy. People died for MLK to share his opinion, sometimes a dull chisel works better then any other tool you have available.

Just consider the source.............Like Steve said, no surprise.

Holy fcuk, Hans-Joerg, I can hardly believe you wrote that. It's like you're one of those bastards in the lineup at L.A. International spitting at these poor returning grunts.

Put yourself in their place for a minute, will you? I lost two best pals over there, and another really great guy, one of the best I’ve ever known, lost his mind and will never be normal again, even forty years later. When I think about it all I still cry. So there.

This isn’t about the rightness or wrongness of war, or this particular war;. It’s about brave young men who did their duty and a helluva lot more than their duty, and they sure as Hell don’t deserve further abuse from some dumb grinning self-righteous SOB fool who wasn’t even there and doesn’t have the slightest clue.

Change your mind, recognize what this really means to these people and to their nation instead of pissing on it all with your unctious, poisonous eunuch’s platitudes, or continue to look like a damn grinning fool.

That’s all from me.
