You deserve a backrub, Steve.
Yeah, that should relax him, especially if it's a nice little Asian girl applying it. :P :P
Holy fcuk, Hans-Joerg, I can hardly believe you wrote that. It's like you're one of those bastards in the lineup at L.A. International spitting at these poor returning grunts.

Put yourself in their place for a minute, will you? I lost two best pals over there, and another really great guy, one of the best I’ve ever known, lost his mind and will never be normal again, even forty years later. When I think about it all I still cry. So there.

This isn’t about the rightness or wrongness of war, or this particular war;. It’s about brave young men who did their duty and a helluva lot more than their duty, and they sure as Hell don’t deserve further abuse from some dumb grinning self-righteous SOB fool who wasn’t even there and doesn’t have the slightest clue.

Change your mind, recognize what this really means to these people and to their nation instead of pissing on it all with your unctious, poisonous eunuch’s platitudes, or continue to look like a damn grinning fool.

That’s all from me.

Let me quote George Bernhard Shaw once more …

“Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it.”

HJ, my original post had nothing to do with patriotism. Nothing.

A forever young man is finally being recognized for actions that he took that were above and beyond the call of duty. There are many of his fellow soldiers who are alive, today, because of the sacrifice that he made some 42 years ago.

This is about him, and him, alone.

You do not seem to be able to understand that.

Please, let it rest.

To the others who have posted here, thank you. Semper Fi.

Steve et al

Anything connected with any war is in essence always about patriotism. That’s the big “selling feature”, always was and always will be!

HJ, your pacifism is not allowing you to understand the meaning of Steve’s message. Even though to some of us it’s about patriotism, it isn’t. It’s about one young mans love for his fellow man that compelled him to sacrifice his life to save theirs, the circumstances under which it happened are immaterial. If you’re Christian you can probably see the parallel.

Walt,

That’s my problem: I’m an atheistic pacifist. And the last push to really arrive there, if such was required, happened during basic training (boot camp) in the Swiss army. Listening to the catholic chaplain holding forth that it was perfectly OK to kill for the fatherland.
Of course I’m the black sheep in the larger family, too. All the others who had to serve gladly advanced up the ladder. Not me, I made sure I would get discharged on medical grounds (severe allergies). Enough said!

This thread now shows the difference between a attention seeking coward and someone that’s willing to die for their beliefs. Semper Fi

And were done. Off train topic threads are going to get locked at around 15 comments, if that. There are plenty of places to talk about thing not train related. Ive been patient. Thats over.
