That reefer looks great, Bruce, but somebody sneezed on your tank car.

Good one, Bob!
I’m also trying to figure out how to disassemble a mostly new in box Lionel Atlantic 4-4-2. I found it at a show last weekend, offered the guy an insultingly low price, he said no, so we started on a ten minute dicker (much too fast for my taste), arrived at an agreeable price, and, after testing it on our layout, I wrote the check, and now own it.
I am still trying to decide if I want to bash it into a 2-8-0, using an extra Aristo Mike that I have, or keep it as an Atlantic. Either way, I’ll have to do some painting of the cab and steam chests, renumber it, and decide whether to keep it as a coal burner or bash the tender into an oil burner.
Does reading back issues of GR, working on the club website and saving money so I can go at it in spring count?
Geoff,
That probably counts more than obsessing over the state of German toy manufacturers.
I just got a box of the first ten “I Love Toy Trains” videos. Now that’s important research. I have about two dozen structures in boxes that I was supposed to finish by now… only about two dozen to go. Put out track on the ground a couple months back for a loop to go around three smaller loops. Since then I have moved it around many times. Last weekend was warm, so I actually started on the section that runs across the front porch. The timing was critical. My wife was out of town, so she was not there to see me with the circular saw cutting out sections of the railing.

Working on a random stone fish cannery at present. Slowly…very slowly…!
Was pretty busy on a scratch + bash tank car for a few weeks (see EBT Tank #102). That project has been stalled for a while waiting for the tank to return.
Lately it seems all I do its transport squirrels to the next township

Waiting for spring so I can set bridges,do some plantings!
At the moment everything is on hold while I’m writing this article about sculpting figures There’s a huge amount of information to sift through and organize, and somehow cull down to the essentials while also finding the right way to present it.
Meanwhile, I’m also trying to get ready for our club meeting/open house on Saturday. It’s been a year since the last time the club was here to see it.
Here are some of the projects that are on hold:
-
I have an LGB, 8-wheel, C&S short caboose which I’m painting, weathering and lighting. I also converted it to body-mounted Kadees. I painted the interior a pale green, and the exterior is red with “wood” showing through. The roof is silver. I’m lighting it with LEDs – one interior light, and the two marker lights. I have the marker lights put together, just need to install them and wire everything together. The lights will be powered by two AA batteries hidden in the toilet area.
-
Painting and weathering the rest of my freight cars, and converting the couplers. Most are finished but there’s still a few left to do.
-
Add a cable going from the hoist house to the headframe on the Cliffside Mine, and put the ore skip on the end of the cable. I also need to add a few more details, such as a large, riveted compressed air tank.
-
Finish installing the wiring for low-voltage lighting on the layout.
After those things are finished, there’s a long list of other projects to do. I think I’m about ready to go to work on my depot – especially after hearing from someone else who liked my design so much he built one of his own.
I need to get some decals made so I can start putting my own herald and lettering on my locos and rolling stock.
I have a combine that’s in pieces and need to be rebuilt, painted, and weathered. Also a coach that needs repainting/weathering and coupler conversion.
Three small locos that need kitbashing. Also some LGB Christmas cars that I want to bash into open-air excursion cars.
Those are just some of the things at the top of the to-do list.

Well, more or less "train wise" I have been scratch building 2 Catarpillar 60's in 1:20 scale for my South fork Timber Company. Just about there, finishing the winches now then have one cable dozer assembly to build. Then paint, decals, and weathering. Later Rick Martytac

I just finished painting my HLW mini caboose. Just waiting to get the decals on. I also just started painting the HLW big John. At some point I want to get another one or two structures going one being an old barn and the other a backwoods engine house.
Then come spring start my expansion with another siding to the engine house.
While still recovering and work, I have been working on my ladder roadbed system, I have 2 Y’s from switchcrafters one for each end of my yet to be determined where is it going RR. I figure I can bench build the first 8’ paint and weather then install.
revision underway
One of the projects is a 6ft x 2ft x 2ft diorama. Handlaid track complete with tie plates and up to 6 spikes per tie.
I am building my RR one piece at a time. I have my " A&NCRR Conductor’s Car #1" built and now I’m trying to figure out how to do the detail paint and lettering.
I started a four bent Pennsylvania (Swiss German style) bank-barn.
I also have a D&RG flat car I want to modify to more closely fit into the 1860’s era, to carry the two Ozark 12 pounder field cannons and the matching limbers (caissons) I am building.
In recent discussions with some large-scalers, I will likely go with battery power and save money by using aluminum track. I am planning on looking at 4-4-0s at the ECLSTS next month.
One piece at a time.
Messing with a bunch of Accucraft couplers & Kadee mounts that JB sent me to check out See post in Rolling Stock.
Well got one of the 2-motor Lionel GP’s converted to 4-motor…wow what a difference! I did discover the 2-motor “innards” are not readily compatible with the 4-motor blocks but after some re-arranging of the sound and lighting cards I got it to work. One down, one to go.
Sunday afternoon, sunny but cold means minimal time at the marina. “Timesaver” is back together and working on putting rolling stock in locations designated by RailOps. Sounds like another hard couple of hours workin on the railroad. Might even find a good old movie to sleep through this afternoon before Sunday Dinner.

Started a compression truss bridge today. I need a bridge for the “temporary” one out on the layout.
I still haven’t finished the thru truss yet. I have to find a die handle so I can thread the rods.
I’ll just get it tomorrow from McMaster Carr, along with some wood screws.
