Large Scale Central

So is 1:20.3 RTR pretty much dead?

Hmm…have you frequented the UK forums? I’m under the distinct impression that the track powered ones are 45mm, mostly LGB, and Live steam is all over the place a lot of 32mm for the older layouts and 45 for the newer.

Try out gscalecentral.com

Joe what is this mythical “S” that you speak of and have so kindly inserted/activated for me on numerous occasions ? I check the URL - https (wrong S ?) and I test the post and it works for me in the UK. Please advise so I may relieve you of your burden.

Pretty much right. If you discount operators of 1:32 Gauge 1 and 1:22.5 Gauge 3 representations of standard gauge UK stuff the garden bit of the LS hobby grew out of roughly two strands, both from around 30-40 years ago - 16 mm scale = 32 mm & Live steam, LGB 1:22.5 = 45 mm & DC. Add in the US makers to the 45 mm mix in the last 20 years. Then the “volume” live steam 32 mm loco and rolling stock builders saw a means of upping their sales and improving margins - go get those 45 mm sparky runners interested in your product and there you pretty much have the current UK scene.

Max,

I copied this line of embed code from the source code of your post… … Notice that the url starts out http and it needs to be httpS.

A while ago our BD made LSC a secure sight and asked us all to re-log in on the https site. Most did, some did not (did you?). If a video is embedded using the http url only those who are logged in on the unsecure LSC can see them. By adding the “S” to the embed code, ALL members can see them.

Hi Joe. thanks for the information. Yes, when I look at this site’s URL in the header it is prefixed “i Not secure” so I suppose I wasn’t paying attention. Now for the really dumb question - how do I fix this ? I have to log in each time I post although I am using what is now possibly an out of date bookmark to find the LSC “Forum Main” page each time I visit. I think I know what has to be done but I need you to confirm it- if you see what I mean (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)Thanks in anticipation.

Max,

You need to delete the old bookmark, log onto the secure LSC and bookmark that. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Yay ! I got it to work Joe. many thanks. This might get the thread back on course. 1:20.3 alive and kicking in the UK.

Nowadays I right click on the vid and I copy or save the embed code, then when I open the movie icon, I click on ‘embed’ and then insert saved code into the big space, then ok. PC w/ winders.

I I can no longer paste and play a You Tube video into the embed video link as I was able to using the old LSC URL. What am I doing wrong now ? Thanks in anticipation.

Remember what I told you about the https:// in the YouTube url? Yours wasn’t.

Video Embedding

This topic has to be re-mastered every time the site owner makes an upgrade to the software. For this incarnation the procedure is…

  1. Grab the embed code from the YouTube video (directly on the video) right click in OPERA (copy embed code); right click in FireFox (Copy embed code); right click in Chrome (get embed code);right click in IE (get embed code).

  2. In the reply window click on “insert/edit video” button in the top row (looks like a movie frame), and select “Embed”.

  3. Paste the embed code (copied from YouTube) in the box and click “OK”.

That’s what we all found works now. Some day down the road we will have to find a new way for new software, but for now this works. Have fun!

Photo inserting

  1. Start by uploading your photos to a server. You have storage space in the Freight Shed on this web site.
  2. After they are uploaded, click on the file you want to open.
  3. Once it is opened, RIGHT click on the picture and select copy image location. DO NOT use the url in the address bar of your browser.
  4. Next click on the insert photo button in your post and paste the image location in the source line.
  5. Look at the dimensions. You will see them if you click on the first box (height). Make it 800 then click on the second box and it will automatically be correctly scaled.
  6. Then hit OK and your photo will be in your post.
