Snow forecast

They are calling for up to 10 inches of snow for Friday and Saturday.
Cale might even see some snow in SC this time.
Ralph

Lucky you. That storm is suppose to stay to my south. We are getting some snow now and throughout the day with this artic front. Already picked up 1/2 inch but only suppose to get a few inches. Make sure you have your trains ready to run in the snow. I want pictures

Yeah, forecasting 61 degrees as high today with 2 inches of snow by Saturday afternoon…who knows?

Here in North Texas today’s high mid 50s. Tomorrow’s high 35 with a chance of freezing drizzle for morning rush hour. Another weekend shot for working on the railroad.

Sigh
:frowning:

I can’t say that I’m sorry to see the snow come your way, after last years snow (37" one night). I’m glad to see the bare ground and sunny sky’s. The snow is in the mountains where it belongs this year. Next year the snow can come back after my railroad is finished and the tractor motor has been replaced (thats another story in its self).

We’re suppost to get rain this weekend with maybe a little snow in the mountains. Have a great weekend.

Chuck

Lets see, last night I went to bed before watching the weather, but there wasn’t anything in the forecast I heard at 6PM until late in the day today.

Got up at 6:30, still dark and it looked like a heavy frost on the cars. As it got light I noticed it was snowing like crazy! We had over an inch by 7:30 when I left for the normal 20 minute trip to work. Roads were horrible, the state must have been taken by surprise too. By the time I was a third of the way to work, there were so many spin-outs and fender benders that the only route was stopped dead.

I sat there for an hour moving less then 500 feet when I came to a turn-around opportunity, so I took it. Heading home, there is a steep down hill that was getting real bad an hour earlier when I came up it. When I arrived, I found traffic stopped. 2 school buses slid off to the shoulder, an ambulance hung on the guard rail where it ended up on the way to an MVA further up the road. After 15 minutes it was clear from the chatter on the scanner that it would be a long time before that cleared up, so I turned around again.

I made a short stop for refreshments to kill some time, filled up with gas and decided to try the route to work again. It wasn’t much better. 3 hours after I left, I arrived at work.

So much for forecasts :frowning:

You would think since afternoon squalls were forecast, that the state might have sanders out in the late afternoon, but no. A squall line dropped another inch on that same hill. Combined with rapidly falling temperatures, the road turned to ice again. A FedEx driver who was too scared to go down stopped up traffic for close to an hour. Town sand trucks were trying to get to the area, but were blocked by the gridlocked traffic. Somehow they got the FedEx guy off the hill and traffic started to crawl. An hour and 15 minutes after I left work I got home.

All this from less than 6 inches of snow, in the dead of winter, in the part of the country where snow squalls are not unusual.

Somebody at the stare DOT was asleep at the switch.

Hi Guys:

I have visited DisneyWorld Florida three times. I am from Canada. When watching the evening television NEWS in Florida it totally blows me away that Canada does not exist. I mean according to American television NEWS coverage, Canada doesn’t physically exist on the World’s Globe! Endless American television NEWS discussion of various tin pot dictators from the most horrific parts of the World though.

The only American television NEWS comment ever of Canada is when COLD ARCTIC weather is coming down from Canada.
There was a Canadian produced comedy movie featuring the late John Candy and the actress who played the grumpy, short waitress “CARLA” on CHEERS.

“CARLA” looked out from her Ottawa prison cell window, having been arrested for dropping litter in Toronto park by horse mounted Royal Canadian Mounties dressed in the Red Serge Uniform whilst discussing the intricacies of the King’s English, to view a featureless blizzard snow wasteland of downtown Ottawa with the rush hour traffic consisting of one dog sled team! Hilarious to Canadians.

Even when your current President of the United States visited Ottawa, that is the Capital of Canada, you know like Washington is the Capital of the United States, Jay Leno and David Letterman made absolutely no mention of your President’s visit. Bizarre! That annoyed me.

Anyways, this year Ottawa is having a mild winter with very little snow. The past five winters have been really easy. Although tonight’s low will be
around -20 C . Two days of cold weather coming up. At -30 C I don’t go outside unless absolutley necessary. But for the past five winters the coldest we got to was around -20 C night time lows. I was raised on Farenheit. But Celcius is actually better for the weather. 0 C is the freezing point of water. Makes more sense to me than Farenheit. I recall 30 Farenheit is the freezing point of water ? Of course I could look that up .

My guess is North or South Carolina has the best weather on the East Coast. Not to hot or too cold.

Advice to any Americans immigrating to Canada. Don’t move to Winnipeg. Manitoba. Winter daytime lows of -40 C are common. Then add the wind chill. Not suitable for human habitation!

Finally please tell your American countrymen residing in Florida that Ottawa, not Toronto, is the Capital of Canada and stop carrying skies on the roof of your automobiles when visiting Ottawa in July. Yes, this actually happens.

Norman

Too funny!!!

A lot of people think that Canada is for the most part a vast wasteland of ice and snow. Well so far this winter we have had enough snow to make the ground somewhat white 2 or 3 times, but it does not last long. Right now and since just after Christmas we have no snow on the ground. Daytime highs up to 10 degrees C and barely freezing at night if all. Other than a bit of snow we have had no rain to speak of. Just another typical winter in south central BC. About 3 hours east of Vancouver. I will be out in the garden some time in March and planning that new RR.
I think the northeastern US is much more wintery than me right now.
Take no offence guys.
Cheers, Randy

Hey Norman!

forget Canada?..not as long as there is a Fred and H.J. but you are onto something…I believe there is a reason “we” ignore both of our neighbors, but will forgo the politico discussion.

you said “My guess is North or South Carolina has the best weather on the East Coast. Not to hot or too cold.” and you’d be about right…

of course of the 2, SC is the far better choice!

72 and sunny here today.

I’d say your opinion is just a wee biased
But I must admit. Your Governor is much more popular on Leno and Letterman

Georgia, South Carolina. What about North Carolina ? Showing your bias again  Despite the name, we’re still below the Mason-Dixon line  Ralph

Canada is the only other country I’ve ever been to. I was 9 at the time.

Never been to Canada. Been to Minnesota 4 times in the winter and that was cold enough.
My foreign countries visited are Germany Austria, Italy. & Mexico. Don’t remember the first three as I was less than 2. I did ride a train from Munich to Innsbruck at 9 days, don’t remember that either. I would go to Mexico in the early 80s to buy gas @ 26 cents a gallon when in El Paso it was over a dollar Remember when $1 gas seemed outragous. Trains cost less then also.

cold and wet in North Texas over 3" in the gauge this morning at least we’re still above freezing

At least we don't call 1/2" a 'blizzard' and shut the whole town down....... All in all, I'd rather snow than Palmetto Bugs! (My brother and sister both live in Myrtle Beach)

Of course I could really use a mini heatwave on Saturday. Low teens, windy, and a moving van just sound like waaay too much fun.

Well we on the edge could go either way so in order to dodge the bullet I usually put the snow plow out and every thing is all rosy. Later RJD

Well as long as the planes are flying out of Buffalo NY on Saturday I’ll be flying over all this to sunny FL and then on a ship even farther south! Left home yesterday morning to flurries and whiteouts from time to time we got about an inch or two total BUT with the wind blowing we had drifts about 2 foot high in the drive way when I got home that required the use of the snowblower to remove. Still snowing this morning but only another inch or so at home. In 24 hours I won;t care for a week. Other than I need to make arrangments to make sure the dog and my mother are fed and watered and that mom can get out of the driveway if need be.

Chas

P.S. Back before the “border restrictions” & required extenisive documentation I travelled to Canada quite often but mostly Niagara Falls and occaisionally to the Toronto Metro area, and most recently up to Stratford Ontario to see a show for our anniversary. Lovely up there!

Chas

Update just in from Nashville TN…

<It’s snowing like crazy right now…they closed the EMI building and we are working from Lauren’s apt. Thanks friend!>
