Snow Forcast

I love snow pictures. This storm could be a monster by the time it hits here. There talking possible Blizzard in parts of NJ with 15-18 inches and 2ft localy. I hope the modles stay and this thing does not push out to see. As of now looks good for us here.

Snow has turned to a rain/sleet mixture. Should return to snow this afternoon. Some of the snow has already melted in this photo. Ralph

Here is the GRR at 1:00pm. It is still snowing, although it doesn’t show in the picture. The heaviest snow is still to come. The National Weather Service is forcasting up to 17 inches here. Ralph

Awsome. Looks like areas from you north going to get hit hard. Bruce and Brian are next.

Us Yankees might have to help you southern boys plow out and teach ya’s how to plow LOL I remember my first year at college in High Point NC. They would get an inch of snow and the area shuts down. It was funny to watch.

If you get the 17 inches that signal bridge and everything else will just be memories

I grew up near Buffalo, NY and I'm sure you've all heard their snow reputation. When I first got my night driving license one of our favorite things was to go out in a blizzard, on the country roads, and teach ourselves how to handle the conditions by practicing skid recovery, learning about poor braking etc.

We moved to Connecticut in '82 when my youngest was 5. They regularly get lots of snow here, but it seems that no-one has a clue on how to drive in it. If they would just stay the heck off the roads I’d have no problem.

If we get the 12+ inches predicted if the storm tracks further north than currently heading, we might be shut down for 2 days. They are holding of on accumulation predictions until tomorrow.

Here, there is no such thing as a flat or straight road. Once I get out of the driveway, I have three different ways I can go. All three are up steep grades with pretty sharp “S” curves. Here you can see the tire tracks starting up the hill. The grade increases as it goes up the hill. The other two directions are even worse. Ralph

I grew up in Michigan and know all about lake effects snow. We used to do the same. Got stuck once trying to bust a six foot drift, that turned out to be about 300 feet long. Before I could dig the truck out, a plow came along and burried it under about 12 feet of snow :o Ralph

Still NO SNOW here, some freezing rain, cold, gray, and nasty…

Thats how it is by me, nothing but curves (Motorcyles love them The one thing about our road dept here is an hour after a big storm the roads are clear and wet. They are amazing with our roads. I remember in 96 we got 42 inches, storm ended at night and by morning roads were clear. Nothing ever shuts down except for schools during big storms.

Shawn, The snow plow will be here two or three days after it stops snowing. They’ll get the main highways cleared sometime tomorrow. Now it is coming down faster than they can clear the roads. And it keeps on snowing.

The first floors are covered…with more snow coming. The Sunnyview Store is almost gone. Just the peak of the roof showing. Ralph

Shawn,

I know what you are talking about. I used to drive one of those plows in Paramus. I don’t miss the cold, wind, vibration, and LONG HOURS. Never could drink enough coffee.

Now I love snow…so long as it is in some one else’s back yard. My back will not tolerate the shoveling any more.

Sunny Florida is for me.

Happy holidays to all.

Bob C.

The plow guys do put in a lot of hours. The road depts even pay the llocal contracters to plow as well as part timers. Thats why our taxes are so dam high.
Ralph keep the pics coming I love it. Hope you have enough fire wood

The weather forecasters here are creaming their pants with predictions of 12 - 18 inches in the DC metro area. Its supposed to be over with by Sunday morning. I have already had a few calls for tractor service. At least I can make some dough from it!

Westbound I-26 between Hendersonville, NC. and Asheville, NC. has been a parking lot since 2:30pm.
Highway Dept says it won’t be open until after midnight. By then, people will have been stuck on the highway nearly 10 hours. What a mess.
Ralph

The Sunnyview Store and Depot are now both bumps in the snow. Snow is now up to the Interlocking windows…and it’s still snowing. Thankfully, we’ve had some periods of rain. Or we’d have a lot more than the 8 inches of snow we have so far. Ralph

Does this mean the Sunny View is shut down? Bunch of wimps should have known to have the plows out to keep the line open

I know someone will throw rocks but it was sunny today with a high of 61. Too bad we were doing errands today!

I was in Charelson SC when the big snow hit in 72 or 73.
Morons didn’t know what to do with it, so they used road graders and bulldozers and pushed all the snow onto the freeway on and off ramps (no 526 then, just 26).

Came in on a flight, taxi had to drive all the way into downtown Charleytown to find a way off the stinking freeway, then surface streets back up to Hanahan.

I think the bridge over the Cooper was closed for days…
