Buffy got it spot on; no soldiers who follow orders and the politicians, religious leaders and the rest of the manipulators would have to do their own fighting.

Alas … there will always be those who follow orders and don’t ask for reasons.

The Inquisition comes to mind. I do believe that was Christian…:confused: We’re still playing the same game. Back then the Christians claimed Jehovah as God, now it’s the almighty Dollar! We are none the less forcing our values upon those that don’t want them.

Iraq did not invade us. We invaded them. Iraq had no part in 911 yet we used that as an excuse to invade. Our government is no more honest or upstanding than Saddam’s Ba’ath party. Oh, you say Saddam slaughtered Kurds. Why don’t you ask the families of some 35000+ civilians we’ve killed since our illegal invasion how they feel…!!

Yes, it’s horrible that they have beheaded people and displayed it on TV. But, had these people not been there…and they really had no business being there as they were not invited by the Iraqis, they would still be alive. The true murderer resides on Pennsylvania Ave in Washington DC…!!

The Inquisition was Christian on Christian, ostensibly to rid the Faith of heretics. Actually, it was an abuse of the Church by politicians for politicians use. Purely political then, and not a religious movement. It is not the same as what the Qu’uran urges of it’s faithful. BTW, we Christians still claim Jehovah as God. Those who worship the almighty dollar as their god are not Christian.

To a large extent, the Iraqi’s are glad that we are there. Sure, they want us out of there, but only after all the bad guy’s are gone and the country is stabilized. As to whether we should have gone there in the first place, I am confident that history will prove “W” right. WMD’s were only one of the reasons specified in the 17 UN resolutions, any one of which gave us the right to go back in. Everybody, including Putin, Jordan and Egypt believed that Sadman had WMD’s. Sadman propagated the fiction? that he had them too. He certainly had the ability in place to resurrect his program. We’ve even found a large cache (what was that code for the accent ague?) of artillery shells filled with Sarin. My personal suspicion is that when all is said and done, we will find Iraq’s cache of WMD’s in the Bacaa Valley of Syria.

If you can convince those like Tojo, Yamamoto, Hitler, Stalin and his successors and OBL not to attack us, then we could probably disestablish our military. Unfortunately, history shows that every time we have tried to cash in on the “peace dividend,” we ended up being attacked. Don’t talk to me, talk to the other guy. The reason that Canada is able to have fewer men under arms than the New York Police Department is because y’all know that the United States will bale you out.

Result —"Neutral Swiss " rush equipment and personnel across border and repair damage for Occupying Power .

That is an example of the sort of person with whom you are all trying to reason .

Steve , it’s no good introducing facts either , if I thought anyone would be slightly interested , I could point you to other sites with a trail of “Interesting” posts where we “watch this space” .

Now I would like you to imagine a scenario where someone wanted to get noticed . What a good wheeze it would be to write things about someone and get them posted under another name --even in another country . Even send emails to other members .
But nobody would do that , would they ? They probably couldn’t spell pseudonym . Just a thought .

The World forgot the lesson learned in World War II…enter Pol Pot…Idi Amin…Rwanda Civil War…Saddam Hussein…and now Darfur…and if the facts are ever known, North Korea will certainly be added to the list.

Appeasement and turning a blind eye caused every dictator & event mentioned above to occur. Start running now…best buy stock in Nike…because you will be running from now on.

I am rather surprised that this has not come up before .

Hans claims to have had a corporal who lost control so that all his men marched over the hill out of sight and earshot .

Get together any group of military and they all have that story , always took a leading role if they’re desperate to be noticed .

The really silly thing about it is that it has formed a funny scene for Abbot and Costello , Carry on (in the army ) and no doubt several other films .

Variations of this apochryphal tale have men marching into lakes , into pubs , and so forth .

Still never mind , keeps him happy .

That's because human nature is immutable. As long as humans exist there will always be new tyrants, dictators and "wingnuts", and there will always be a need to defeat them.

The defeat of past tyrants isn’t going to prevent the rise of future tyrants. It’s ridiculous and illogical to suggest that this means defeating tyrants is futile. One might as well suggest that we stop arresting criminals too.
