Two things strike me about this announcement:- 1 The bit about "small quantities" of stock produced in Hungary and China. That's actionable in my opinion particularly in the light of the freely available production schedule for 2008. Producing enough product for the european market isn't "small" by any means, if we are to believe the threads about percentages of NA sales vs total sales. 2 The bit about having "some desireable items in stock". I had to laugh at this one. Surely after such a long period of time since the last "delivery" surely all the desireable stuff would have sold out already? It would be interesting to be Silvergate's auditor next year when they have to consider whether any provisions are required for slow moving stock. The prices they are charging are quite high too, though this is merely catching up with the exchange rate imbalance between the euro and dollar. However, in spite of all the shenanigans, after seeing some of the latest sterling and euro pricings for track etc, it appears my LGB collection has increased in value. A shop I visited apparently sold an ex-demo 2-10-2 HSB locomotive (sound+MTS) for £1,395 - I bought mine for £1,200 16 months ago. Track appears to have gone up by 50% in the UK and again, since I have around 100m purchased at £1 per 10cm, I just "gained" around £500. Sterling is weak against the euro though and this will adjust back over time. Les
The announcement proves once more that it doesn’t matter which name they run under, they still lack class in a big way.
On the desirability; all I know is that time and again I got the “last of” from RRS of what I considered desirable.
Slow moving stock? They just ship it back to Germany to a special buddy for clearance on eBay. BTW that buddy has changed his name on eBay a few times, too. Seems to be a genetic affliction in that circle.
Tons of stuff showed up from that source shortly after the insolvency was under way, to the consternation of many and the annoyance of quite a few. It was thorn #2 for some dealers, thorn #1 was the wholesale disposal at the 125th.
