Hi folks
Some of you know that I’ve been working on upgrading the software on the site for about a year now. I’ve personally asked some of you for advice/opinions/etc regarding what you like and don’t like on the site, and some of you have seen the various incantations of the upgrade. Since it’s getting more refined, I’m now ready to show it to a wider audience.

The development site is currently sitting here:

Your LSC login should work the same there as here, and the forums are current as of a day or two ago. Its not live, so anything you put up there won’t get reflected back here, but please exercise the corners, and let me know what you do and don’t like about it.

Some info and known issues:

  • I don’t like the chat engine; it will get rewritten.
  • Everyone has the ability to have a personal blog, and construction articles that you’ve entered have been turned into blog entries.
  • Pasting in an image url doesn’t work like it does here (yet). That’s on my list of must-have before the site goes live.
  • Automatic pasting of Freight Shed urls doesn’t work yet.

So, lemme know what you think.

I haven’t logged into LSC in a very long time (never log out) so I guess I must have forgotten which email I used. This version uses a “handle” as the login name. I’ll check my profile and report back here again if I can’t get in the new site.

I agree with Mark that it needs some background shading or color.

EDIT: Got in. I just have too many email addresses :slight_smile:

The blue print could be a little darker for me.
And it is a little bright. But that could be my settings.

Yea, no, I agree on the colors. This is the “least offensive” out of the default ones I can pick. I intend on making the colors a bit more like THIS site, in terms of shading and color themes.

Thanks Bob for developing this site further and all your hard work!

I have one suggestion in-addition to the colors, can the page be made to fit the screen- no borders? Like it does with the current site.

The “New Posts” feature is missing on the new site…

Interesting that you have a “Paste from Word” function… Does that mean that if I have a photo in my Word document, it will make the transfer? Hmmmm, will have to give that a try. Nope, it just transfers text… Bummer.

I looked at the “Articles” section. No photos. Have you addressed that, yet?

I tried to look at the various Blogs and was told that I don’t have permission to look at “this private page.”

I like what i see. I agree that the white needs to go. Yellow is familiar.

Thanks for the hard work on this, and especially for not surprising us with a change full of bugs! :smiley:

A few issues:

What happened to the pictures in the articles?

How does a forum topic have a negative number of replies?

I’d like to see a list of topics not read…or something that lets me know what’s new.

I miss the pictures that greet us each time. I went to the Albums tab, but it looks like it’s just the profile pictures. Mine looks very grainy when enlarged so much on the home page.

Generally looks very nice so far Bob.

I agree on keeping the background colors the same.

Only thing I noticed so far without actually using the site is the very small and faint letters on the words at the bottom of the chat. A bit difficult for old eyes to read easily. Just a bit darker shade of blue there would be a big help. I had no difficulty anywhere else.

Youtube embeds do not seem to work on the new site. Should be an easy fix.

Glad you will adjust the colors.

Under members can you go from a page # format to an Alphabetical search button format?
Will the new chat be all Auto Scroll or will you retain the push chat to advance feature ?
Will you include the Mark all topics read feature ?
Will we be able to login from any page ?

Chester, I’m sure that there will be a forum for live steam. The new site is just a test site, not all fora have migrated there yet.

There is a Live Steam site here that will most likely make the transition, since it is one of the more popular forums.

Will there be an ignore feature so I can put Rooster on Iggy on some days, and so that HJ can put me on Iggy all the time? :stuck_out_tongue:

Bob,
The “old” forum is the best designed forum I have ever visited. In terms of both aesthetics and function.
The only thing I don’t like about the “old”, is the chat.
I know this isn’t much help :wink:
