Seeing the same concept with Toyota and Bachmann. Toyota sticks it’s head in the sand and Bachmann ignores the problems with gearing. They do make very nice looking items. How ironic as they both use wheels and so I think I am safe in this topic as it does have something train related?

I think the wife is going to make our clothes and I’ll grow some food and play with the train I have as they are reliable or have been fixed.

I think it is getting harder everyday trying to figure out what is safe to eat, drink, drive or buy as a lot of products are just plain c.r.a.p.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling___.

Well now I have said my piece and will order a Pizza, not worried about the cardboard no flavor no taste !!!

Oh ya !!! Guinness is still my brew and if they screw with that, I’m through !!!

Now on another train note, we are looking at taking a long trip on Amtrak as we enjoy the scenery that’s usually not available driving. Food is fairly good the last time we took Amtrak and prices was easy on the pocketbook too.
Our trip starts with Amtrak bus to Needles Ca where we board the train heading for New Orleans then after a few days reboard and head for Chicago and the over to Minnesota for a few days and then off to Portland Or. Transfer for the train heading for L.A. and change trains to Needles Ca. About three weeks are involved…

That’s all for now----

Cheers

Ah yes, Needles, California; the “Garden City of the West” hehehe! Home of heat, sand, snakes, fleas and back, side and front yard junkyards.

Have a great trip anyway Darryl. It’ll be great everywhere but Needles. Sounds like a lot of fun too. Send us reports if you can please.

Too bad you couldn’t include Durango and Mesa Verde while you’re in the southwest.

As to Toyota and Bachmann; do you suppose they come out of the same factory?

Dear Nephew - Me and ig like the new version of the lighthouse, but he would like to point out that if you are going to operate it in daylight hours then it needs to flash black, not white.

Apart from that, we love it.

And now, a real GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR moment…

I daresay that most of you who are fortunate enuff to live in Oregon cannot help but have seen the news about the two no-brain scumbags who shot up the historic Cape Meares lighthouse in early January, causing irreparable damage to the original fresnel lenses that had been made in France in 1888. They fired a total of nineteen shots at this wonderful old structure, one that belongs to the nation, if not the world.

The costs of repairs, as replacements are not possible, is pretty certain to hit at least a million dollars, maybe higher.

You’ll be pleased to learn that they have arrested the two oxygen-wasters responsible for this heinous act of wanton destruction.

Details follow…Quote from www.northwestfirearms.com

The first order Fresnel lens was hand-crafted in Paris in 1888-89 and sailed across the Atlantic, down around Cape Horn past South America, then up the Pacific Coast – about 17,000 miles – arriving in 1890 to be installed in the lighthouse. The light protected the lives of ship crews through pounding storms, driving rain and life-threatening fog until 1963 when the Coast Guard replaced it with an automated beacon.

The Friends of Cape Meares Lighthouse and Wildlife Refuge are accepting donations, and have collected $12,000 so far. The total bill will probably be more than half a million. You can help, if you like.

The Friends: http://www.capemeareslighthouse.org/...ws_events.html

Let me know if you have other questions (I can’t answer anything related to the investigation, but can about the lighthouse and future plans). - end quote

Remember these names, folks - Zachary Pyle , 23, and David Wilks , Jr., 26. They were arrested at a Florence construction site following search of their Oceanside home Wednesday. Both were charged with first-degree criminal mischief, a class C felony, and four misdemeanor charges.

Police say the two drove down a blocked maintenance road in early January and fired several rounds at the historic structure, breaking 15 windows and damaging the irreplaceable Fresnel lens at the top of the lighthouse. The grassy area around the lighthouse and a Coast Guard beacon nearby were also damaged.

Please, if you have any love of history, do what mrs tac and I have done and donate something to the fix.

Me and ig are looking forward to the hangin’ in the nearby car-park pretty soon. In fact, we are coming over at our own expense to haul on the rope. There will be a festivatin’ hangin’ party at Crazies later that evenin’, just as soon as we can get down there.

Expect a crowd and you won’t be disappointed. Later on we can go watch the Highway 101 traffic light. Nobody would DARE to shoot THAT up!!

So true. The same goes for kids toys. Sometimes I wonder if they even test the products to see if they work. Seems like every toy we get the kids has a problem. Does not work properly or like they show on comercials or its too hard for me to push the plato through a tube to make spagetti so how is a kid going to do this if I cant. Everything made today is junk.

Ahhhhh Guinness, the nectar of the gods!!!

I think Toyota got caught up in their reputation for quality and wasn’t paying attention. Got caught with their pants down.

why should they produce quality, whilst we don't want to pay more than a pittance for products?

I think its more to do with their US executives being from the same school of training that GM, Chrysler and Ford all get their Ivy League MBA equipped leadership from, and that school teaches profit above all else, quality always tends to fall when the Ivy League schooled MBAs get involved. Mehopes Japan will send over new managment until they regain the trust of the US consumer.

I’ll still buy a Toyota anyday, trouble is you can’t built millions on millions of cars and not expect their to be some problems, ask Ford or GM about that, Toyota is experiencing growing pains but I still think they are 100% better than GM Ford or Hyundai for that matter.

Besides I can’t afford a Porsche Panamera.

We sure like our new Fold Flex.

I’ve worked with Jap companies and their quality problems nearly my entire professional life. Every single one of them has the same response to a quality problem with their product.

Deny! Deny! Deny!

Gentlemen, if you do not like the product DON’T BUY IT!!! Of course if Americans did not have to have to newest, biggest, and/or most costly all the time maybe these people would take time to find and fix the problems.

If you know where the styling cues are its like they literally took my car and inflated it. I’m curious about the new Transit Connect.

I’d gladly volunteer to put 19 bullets in the two idiots. In the old days we would have cleared the gene pool of such scum thru the judicious use of a gun or a rope.

Remember the BRICK-lin? It’s back. This time, designed by Stevie wonder. tac www.ovgrs.org

Andre,

I think I would rather 2 shots with a dart gun. One for each, loaded with a massive overdose of sodium pentathol. Yes, it is painless for them, but it is silent and extremely deadly.

I prefer Guiness Stout and see no need to change, after all, I have too many years invested to do anything else !!!

Victor I bought a Transit Connect last October and it is a fine vehicle. The door sticker says it’s a truck but it’s looks more like a van. Mine is white with the side windows and fold up rear seat. I really enjoy the height for I can see all around with ease. Oh ! You should see the key that opens the door and gas hatch. Last bit, made in Turkey or one other European country. All are imported…Seems that FORD likes it that way?

BTW - Turkey is in Asia. Last time I was there. The Turks make some beautiful guns, too, with wood to die for. All that Circassian walnut, y’know.

IIRC Turkish gun barrels are recognized as the best in the world.
