Silvergate 'manufacturing' replacement spares for LGB?

Tim,

You won’t find much info here. I suspect because it is early in the process that the email announced. I don’t know anymore that what the email said.

“Silvergate Manufacturing has a variety of parts for LGB engines in stock and available to the public.
Also, Silvergate Manufacturing has started making new replacement parts for LGB engins to help you keep your engines running for future generatons to come.”

http://www.silvergatemanufacturing.com/home.html

While Silvergate may manufacture LGB parts, there is no indication in their website description that they have done so now. The parts listed under “LGB Parts” are not designated as newly manufacturered.

To me, I am interested in how Silvergate is unchallenged – maybe they have been – as to their having the “right” to manufacturer and so name the parts as LGB IF, I say IF, Marklin holds the patent and manufacturing rights.

Perhaps there was a German “Stimulus Package” – if so, there may be no more or less confusion than what we are experiencing as to whether “stimulus” is a gov’t. holding of stock or simply “here’s the cash.”

Jack,
many thanks.

Wendell,
the eBay site that I consider the ‘unofficial’ eBay shopfront for Silvergate, lists some original parts as LGB (complete with manufacturer headers) plus always has ‘used’(?) LGB for sale, including numerous collectable ‘samples’. The aftermarket parts are listed as ‘same as part #XXXXXXX’ and conceivably are sourced from the LGB OE supplier, as does other companies. A new supplier is welcome to afficiandos of the brandname. I feel that the OE supplier must hold the rights to the product and thus avoids infringement with Marklin. Companies like Buhler, have been manufacturing for a long time and their product line is not exclusive to Lehmann and would thus be seen as outside of Marklin’s patent/copyright/trademark control.

Yepper olde thread but this is the one that popped up when I typed silvergate manufacturing into google.ca search field !

IS silvergate’ closed down ? or just their G-gauge aspect of the business ?

The website url that popped up for them IS dead !

Thanks for any info,

doug c

Yes, gone

And you can see by reading it, that once again, Jack had no clue.

If you are a cowboy on an adVenture, you will know that Silvergate went the way of the Iron Horse.

And Jack did have a clue, hence my post above.

What post above? You have no prior post on this thread unless Gtrainman is an alias of yours.

Trying to make sense of the post.

Greg

Thanks for the info Greg !

nite, doug c

p.s. and I would think any prev. post relating to like … early 2009 olde news (when they still existed) is dead news not to start . . . . . . . . kicking sand back and and forth about !

As a final note, it’s too bad, because I used to work within walking distance of LGB and later Silvergate in San Diego. Somehow I missed getting the layout tour though, wonder whatever happened to it.

Greg

“…missed getting the layout tour though, wonder whatever happened to it. …”

Yow ! being corp. depending how the “doors were closed”, how much personal involvement managment had in actual garden railways as a hobby, it may have just ended up in a landfill ! That is a heartbreaker, IF that is what happened to it !?

Hopefully it was (at very least) sold to someone who enjoys a running trains !!

No alias here, my one and only post above. Re-read it and use The Google for a bit of fun. The clues are all there.

EDIT, if you are in fact a cowboy, make sure your adVentures are started on Grenwich Standard Time…

Don’t be obtuse. If you have something to say, say it. Don’t play “I’m giving you clues” and “go look for yourself”. You’re just being difficult to be difficult. Knock it off.

Says “Anthony Castellano” on the resume.
Says sold business (Silvergate).
To whom?
You’d think the purchaser had a reason for buying. To maybe, continue the business.

I had always, since the eBay business commenced trading several years ago, considered this to be LGBoA’s unofficial LGB dumping company. I always dealy with Brian Nenn and found him to be generally very helpful. I did not know that big Tony was in the background. The eBay business has not listed for many months. It did cease trading for a few months to allow a brick and mortar store to be opened, but like its predecessors, the eBay business while still registered, does not list those hard to find LGB spares plus numerous rare ‘sample’ items. The store was to me like the last remaining remnant of that obscure German toy manufacturer.

Bob, sorry, was intended to be a bit of of a fun hunt and Cale got it.

Was not to be difficult or obtuse, but your point has been taken and understood!

Yes, GS Treasures Depot, under GST Ventures along with Silvergate at one time.

GST Ventures/Depot both on the net and on eBay sold western wear along with LGB items.

Thought a few of you might find this of passing interest, and hope all parties are doing well with their new ventures.

A March, 2010 posting on the site called LGB Trains-News and Photos, from a contributor living in Holland, that all of the Silvergate inventory was sold to Warenreich Co. who sold product on German E-Bay.
HJ, a German-speaking and reading contributor to LSC, may have new information – in particular how Train-Li obtained their sizeable listing of LGB parts. In short, what is now actually being manufacturered by the Marklin company??

Wendell,
under a contractual arrangement with Marklin, LGBoA (Silvergate) was required to dispose of its entire ex-LGB stock by, from memory, Jan 1st, 2009. The Warenreich collection of parts is most presumably directly from Marklin. Rather than inventorise the entire old collection onhand of ex-LGB spare parts, Marklin ‘auctioned’ off the entire stock to a dealer in Germany. I believe that Alex imports from this source when parts are needed.

As to any parts ex-Silvergate, then I am not aware of who received any outstanding onhand stock when Silvergate ceased trading as a parts supply/repair facility. Silvergate was offering OEM spare parts from presumably Massoth, just prior to closing and it was this that I was enquiring about when my original posting was made.
