Large Scale Central

Shermans Valley Railway

Here is the start of my railroad. Loosely based on the Newport and Shermans Valley Railroad. I grew up near the right of way in Perry County Pa. I plan on re righting some history as if it never went bankrupt and Conococheage tunnel was completed to the Path Valley.

No rain today so I got back to work on my railroad. I was able to place part of the trestle and the bridge I built this week.

I would bet the gremlin is the ( ) in the photo name.

Also if you stick to 8 characters, or less, no spaces, you should be OK.

Sorry on Photo’s Not able to get them. Maybe some one else can re-do them for you… Our frt.shed like others too. It dosen’t work most of the time and same with videos now with new program LSC use …

Marc,

The problem is the space in the file name. (Not the length or the all caps JPG.) I can see them if I copy your link to MS Word, remove the hyperlink, and copy the full string to my browser. But even doing that and re-copying the link to here doesn’t help.

You need to rename the files and only use small letters. [Let me know if you can’t, and I will save them in my area and rename them.]

However, even though LSC can’t cope with the space (%20 in the above link) you can copy the ones above back to the browser address box and you should see the pics. I do. Put your mouse pointer on the last G and right click. Pick ‘copy shortcut’ and paste it in the browser new window.

Ya know, BOB. I might post here more often if posting pics were easier. I just wasted 1hr for two crappy pics. First it didn’t like the name. I deleted them. Renamed them. Could see them in my freightshed. When to edit post and the old names were there. Closed out. re signed in. They are there with new names. Cool back to edit. Hit freightshed, back to old names. again and again. Finally after hitting freightshed , I right clicked and reloaded page. And finally they show up. Baah, I could have tinpic’d it in a minute.

Hey Mark

Great start you have there. The woodwork looks super nice.

I use imageshack to post all my pic’s cause it is so easy.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Great start Mark. Beautiful bridge and trestle work.

Nice start on the railroad…

As do I. I used photobucket and just copy the direct link and it works everytime.

Nice Bridge also.

That looks great Marc. Thanks for posting.

I will add the Putnam(ex. Perry Lumber Company)Lumber Company branch that will snake under the bridge and down the hill towards the water with switch backs. The goings been slow as the skeeters have been bad this summer. Here is an overhead shot.(http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/marc_bergmueller/overhead.JPG)

I really like that curved trestle. Nice work.

I’m afraid I don’t get it when people say it’s hard to post pictures here. No tags needed, just put the URL in you message and you’re done.

Marc

Nice progress on the RR!

I’m very familiar with the 1:1 prototype that existed as Little Buffalo is my favorite lake to fish. I’m in Cumberland County. I noticed the viaduct in the background…that was outside of Blain? I think. I researched this RR a bit and got sucked in so I quit as there was more info and knowledge out there than I was prepared to handle. Did you know there was plans to interchange with the EBT and Tuscarora RR’s that never happened.

I dug through some of my links (that are not organized) and found this if you don’t already have it …http://www.west2k.com/pastations/perrypa.shtml I have a few more as well if your interested.

Keep up the good work!

Yes, the viaduct was near Blain. I went to Blain Elementary. The tunnel stopped connection with the Path Valley railroad. Perry lumber used a Climax, I’ll use a Shay. I lived at Centre Presbyterian Church outside of Loysville along the right of way. I wish I had pics of the trestles that crossed the stream. All that is left are the cement piers at the water. They were pretty high so there had to be trestle.

I’ve lived in Cumberland County for 15 yrs. I worked the Carlisle job extra a few times as well as Shiremanstown and Enola Yard. I was a Conrail/norfolk engineer for a while. My main job was the route to Pittsburgh, around the Horseshoe Curve. Saw many a backdoor.

Send me anything you have. I don’t have much but the basic story and a map or two.

Actually Marc …I can think of a few here that could make GOOD use of this link especially for research with all the EBT fans we have with in the Large Scale Central crew…http://www.dot.state.pa.us/internet/bureaus/pdplanres.nsf/infoBPRHistoricCountyMaps

I can’t handle too much at once Marc cause I need to slow down…where is your approx location currently?

This is the LSC I knew …thank you Bob!

Nice trestle Marc. The curve design looks great. Nailed or glued together?

David, I live in New Bern NC. I have family still in Lewisburg, New Columbia area and Carlisle, Pa. I also visit with Barry Zeigler(lake meade) and his LS railroad often.

Rich, the curve is a little bit of nails, glue and math. Thank God for computers. Found a program that helped http://www.1728.org/circsect.htm I first cut solid, trackwidth segments angled 2 1/2 degrees and end glued them together, re-enforced with small thin squares over the joints. I used a chalk arc on the floor as a guide. Then I added the bents upside down over the joints giving good spacing and alignment. I used a large metal square to add the x braces and keep everything straight. They are some crooked ones…

Looks good, Marc. You planning on modeling the N&SV equipment to any extent? I’m almost finished a model of Perry Lumber Co’s Climax, built from a B’mann climax with a new boiler and cab.

That whole region there is chock full of unfulfilled, but interconnected railroad dreams. I often wonder what would have happened if they had actually networked together, especially if they were successful in heading south through McConnelsburg.

Later,

K

Hi Marc:

Very impressive. I also like the switch on the return loop / curve which makes a dog bone or not dog a bone. Really neat.

David: I really enjoyed the Bugs Bunny cartoon clip.
