Set Out Cabins

Even in the summer they gotta boil some coffee if you want any work out of em! Seems just plain fiscally sensible!

Todd those are some really nice looking camp shacks,

Dennis

yeah, chimneys and outhouses are needed.

they look nice.

NOW I gotta build Outhouses!! What have I gotten myself into??

I agree they do need chimneys and stoves so the crews can cook up a breakfast and make some coffee.

Thanks for the positive comments.

Build your outhouses over a creek (prototypical in some lumber camps) so the waste flows downstream to the next camp.

John, so that’s why the coffee tasted a bit strange at the valley camp.

OK Good news management has taken the advice from you guys and installed stoves in the cabins. They also went as far to build 2 outhouses with roofs made from bits of the world famous Taylor Tin Works. They want all to notice that one is for the gents and one for the ladies designated by a moon on the door or a heart. The RR is an equal opportunity employer and certainly doesn’t want to be accused of discrimination.

Firewood is currently being split and will be delivered to the camp once the Spring work season starts.

Funny, that Heart looks to be about ‘face’ size! I bet you hear some foot stomping real soon!

‘Now git out there Mister and fix it or you’re sleeping on the floor!’

John

Outhouses over a creek.

Chimneys and stoves in the outhouse? Breakfast and coffee while attending to business? How are you going to get the crews out into the forest?

The same way my bosses get me out in front of customers. No worky, no money.

Well the stoves for heating are fine and the outhouses, well, they are just necessary.

But without a cook shack you will never get a crew to your “show” let alone get any

work done.

You have to have the best cook available to serve up lots of food, hot and fast, or

your woods crew are going to “drag up” and head for a better “show”

Besides the Saturday night “get drunk money” the food was the only reason to

stay with any “outfit”

Better consider a cook shack(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Great models by the way.

This just goes on and on what did I get myself into? Stoves, firewood to heat and cook, outhouses and now a cook shack! Next I will need to build a saloon for the Saturday night sinners then a church for the Sunday morning repenters…

I have a better idea I will fire the crew and turn the shacks into weekend getaways for the Bed and Breakfast folk. The train will drop them off then pick them up early and throw some coffee and muffins at them.

Don’t forget “Billiards Upstairs” , so you will need two story saloons.

Well then you will need a lake! You can’t have a weekend resort without a lake??

Either way, you’re going to need a mess hall.

Probably just be easier to put stoves in the cabins then build a cook shack, outhouses a saloon and a church.

Lakes Boats ! These basic shacks are getting expensive and complicated.

I like the B+B idea. I think just the thrill of staying in a genuine work camp skid shack will be enough to attract the true railfans.

My wife and I once spent good money to spend a night on hard bunk beds in a caboose.

I say build it and they will come.
