Scott's 2019 MIK Bulid

Will attempt to build a loading dock with an upper office area.

Looks good Scott. Can’t wait to see it come together.

I have a box full of POLA parts to use for the upper office and maybe the platform roof. The platform i will have to think about… maybe out of wood or some plastic desk inlays i have lying around that can rip down.

Welcome, Scott. Look forward to watching the loading dock come together.

Welcome Scott !

Don’t know what type of foundation to use… A stone foundation or a wood braced foundation… any thoughts?

Scott, in the end its up to you, but I am partial to wood. One consideration may be the economic status of the business or town. If it is prosperous, then stone may better provide that allusion and likewise, if its on a shoestring budget, wood may be more appropriate. Just my 2 cents. I look forward to the build with stone or wood.

Scott, Here is my foundation for my dock on the Taylor Tin Building from Mik 2016.

All just glued ( tightbond III ) and pin nailed. Easy breezy…

Hope this helps a bit.

If you need some fire brick … Dan has some … you can have … he’s never going to finish his pizza oven … (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Sean, Sean, and just when I was about to take you off the pizza naughty list (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif). But I do have enough fire brick cutoffs from the oven build to construct the Great Wall of … Waverly (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

My work area before the madness…

Backsplash tile stones for the foundation

Boxes of POLA parts and odds and ends. Building will be about 8 inches wide

by 24 inches long

wow, that is a well organized work space! Sheesh!

Scott, how do you find anything in there? Everything is in its place. I see you decided to go with stone for the foundation. That will look good. A couple years ago the challenge required us to use cut stone as part of the build and I chose to build a water tank. I really wanted the wooden lattice work supporting the tank so I built a stone foundation and put the lattice work on top of the stone as shown below. I had elevation on my side though.

I found this on-line… this is what i am sorta basing my building on.

I was able to do a little work yesterday. I have a long way to go. Using POLA parts and odds and ends I have lying around

Nice!! Gonna co.e out great.

Scott, if it turns out like the inspirational photo (I have no doubt it will), you will have a fine loading dock for the RR. I have that same little chop saw. It does a good job, my only complaint would be that its size doesn’t allow to see what you are doing very well. Looking forward to the next update.
