Rotary Snow Plow Build

Now that looks perty darn spiffy!!..

Nice work Jerry. Odd looking prototype, being unpainted but I kinda like the apperance.

Nice work, Jerry!

Wonderful. It’s been great watching this one evolve.

Great job jerry the red really adds to the train. how did your wife cut the vinal lettering?

Thanks guys. Wife had a sign shop out of the house, has the software and a 40" cutter. It’s the same way Del Taprio makes the stuff he sells, or your local sign shop might do it for you.

Jerry,

I am jumping in on this way late but Dakota John suggested I look at your use of foil tape as a method of making ribbed siding for a future HO build. I have a roll of the stuff as Kevin Strong suggested it for my cab roof omycurrent project. I can see its potental.

Now that you have used it and had some time with it is the detail holdng up? Any suggestions. I thought maybe laying thin wire down first and laying the tape over it to give firm ridges, necessary? again this will be and HO aplication will the detail be fine enough. I am not happy with commercial ribbed material for this project so making custom siding might be the ticket. Below is the siding I would be after. Suggestions?

Devon,

Depends on the material you want to use: for styrene or ABS I’d be looking at material that architectural model builders use; or you could make up a jig to use aluminium (the strength/thickness that is used for throw-away baking pans) and deep draw the ribbing using one of the rollers that is provided to install screendoor screens.
I use that for standing-seam metal roofs.

Jerry: Didn’t you get some pictures of the plow in operation? I thought I saw some a year or two ago! Of course you may not have any snow like western Washington. Paul

Hans,

None of the commercially available styrene or ABS seems right. The spacing just is usually to close. When you step up to say G scale then the spacing is better but the rib is to pronounced. I was thinkin using dakotha Johns idea of groving a board and then using laying brass or aluminum down and using a wire hammer the material into the groove. that would work well but then he suggested the tape.

Even using a ribside aboose was a thought as I think this was how this was made but even then the ribs arent right. All in all I need to not be so picky.

Let me look for the pictures I posted in one or the other thread. I’ll link them as soon as I find them. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Hans,

Please do if something looks right I will go with it.
