Roco buys Fleischmann

News out of Nurnberg: The Deutsch-Österreichische Modellesienbahn Holding GmbH headed by Franz-Josef Halsberger, owner of Roco, has purchased Fleischmann for an undisclosed amount. Looks like they may give Märklin a run for their money.

Modelleisenbahn Holding GmbH is owned by the Upper Bavarian Franz-Josef Haslberger. His main business interests are in the building industry i.e. production of mortar (Hasit GmbH).
That’s who bought Fleischmann; Modelleisenbahn Holding also happens to own ROCO.

Not any worse a fit than some of the other takeovers, have to check if he is a model railroader, or just plays with trains. Perhaps he collects “Things”.

BTW that means “would the last of the model railway production people please turn off the light when they leave Nürnberg!” Of course it will be interesting to read what kind of spin Roland Fleck puts on this one!

PS Strictly coincidental: Fleischmann celebrated their 120th Anniversary in 2007!  Those anniversaries seem to be a bad omen!

HJ

Why wait for Herr Fleck’s spin when we all find your spin to be much more of a tea cup ride, not unlike Disneyland.

Jack

Jacko,

I have it on good authority that Disneyland is a LGB specialty.

On other matters; it always amazes me that you can’t get even the most basic information right. You should consult your family member to get the translation into some semblance of accuracy.

@LSC: Modellbahn Holding GmbH intends to operate Fleischmann as a separate entity, they will also continue the currently running restructuring efforts.

Sure sounds very familiar . BTW Walthers in Milwaukee is also a distributor for both Fleischmann and ROCO. Will be interesting to watch!

I have never laughed so hard in my life!

Mark,

So did I!

But, do you happen to know who Roland Fleck is?

You should read his most recent glorification of things in Nürnberg and then juxtapose that with his spin during the EPL insolvency. Oh vey, oh vey!

HoJo

I didn’t say a word about them being combined or leaving Nürnberg (Heilsbronn). You must have jumped those conclusions.

No you didn’t, you just titled the thread

 , obviously one of your “famous” slip-ups! Same if you think Heilsbronn is identical with Nürnberg. Fact is: It’s lights out for Nürnberg as the production location!

Careful reading of German press releases helps immensely if one would like to relate accurate information. Some people learned that in the past 18 months, others are still learning!
Google or Bablefish translations anyone?

Who are these people and why would I care?

Brian,

They make those little trains  :).

Nothing to do with large scale, eh? Definitely off topic!

Absolutely nothing to do with LS.

If you recall, I was the one that posted that Fleischmann had left Nürnberg nearly a year ago. It must be so boring up there in the Tundra that you have to really stretch to pick a fight. Been to Germany five times in the past ten years ... and the last time you were there?

Jack,
I was there 17 times in the last 10 years. So your point?

Scott

Well, you obviously missed a few of the press reports during the last year commenting on “will they or won’t they” move the whole shabang.

And as recently as … 2008/02/15 the following could be read in the “Nürnberger Nachrichten”

NN said:
..............................
You have to do a bit more reading, be better imformed. All that "next week" stuff didn't look good last summer, but I guess some lessons are awfully hard to learn, eh? ;) :)

Scott,

Jack is “funny” about those things. For him being there is more important than getting the correct information in the right order. But that’s OK,
by now most of us know Jack and don’t mind a “funny” interlude.

H-J

That’s the point, you don’t know Jack!

HJ,
the general forum was beginning to look like the ‘off-topic forum’ for a while. Finally, something with some meat in it. I can see this lasting a few pages. However, unlike the saga from last year (and the year before), hopefully something ‘concrete’ will come out of it. Maybe something to look forward to for ‘next summer’.

Unfortunately, I have never actually been to Germany, but I did fly over it at 30,000ft (no not in the employ of Bomber Command!). Nurnberg recovered fifty years ago, hopefully it will recover from this latest shock, although I do not think that it will ever be 'business as usual'.

Tim,

I don’t worry if it does or doesn’t; but since Halsberger is in the mortar business, that seems a lot closer to something “concrete”.
