Absolutely Rick I hope that was taken in jest as it was meant. You do such great work that a piece of cement board doesn’t stand up. But of course it is one part and a very important part. I have often considered the cement board idea for my bases. Certainly cheaper and easier than gluing up pvc lumber.
Devon,
I have had pretty good luck with the cement board. I have turntable pit bottoms that have been out in the weather for 6-7 years with no harm but to be honest they are coated with Flex Seal on the upper side.
But I have other slabs out the same amount of time with no coating and they are doing fine. They just have to be supported so they don’t sag. Also they are not laying in the dirt where they can’t dry out between rains which in Oregon means they get to dry about once a month
Given that info at the very least might work well on the bench part as it is thin dirt and all drainage. It stays very dry.
The office/storage/whatever building.
No new techniques here just cut, glue and paint.
The shell from 1/4 plywood and the base from 1/2 inch.
Cutting out the siding and building the doors and windows.
The basic building complete and primed ready for the finishing touches.
Building complete except for some signage.
Rick,
Just how long did that take?
Really hard to say for sure as it was spread out over 3-4 days but just guessing I’d say 6-7 hours start to finish.
Knowing Rick about 10 minutes
Love the siding… Is that what is call Adirondack Siding?
Great looking building.
Got a start on the pump island today.
The pump layout with the support posts for the canopy
Soldering up the roof frame.
Story line; The old pump was in place before the upgrade to the facility, the company just extended the island to accommodate the new pumps and canopy.
Might finish this under the wire after all.
Todays progress, not much.
The “structural steel” work is done, primed and painted.
The light bracket and wiring chase holes drilled.
The canopy covering is built ready for primer and paint. Oops, still needs a ridge cap
The "concrete island base is primed and sanded ready for finish painting.
Things started to come together today.
A couple of picts showing the lights and wiring.
And a couple showing the completed pump island.
Just a few more details left to finish.
I’m jealous. I pigeon holed my rr to a time prior to horseless carriages burned rotted dinosaurs. I have a couple model pumps and you make them look great. But just doesn’t work to have a has station on a layout that exists before gasoline was invented
Fantasize a progressive whale oil station.
to fill up the mobile oillamps on the horse drawn coaches…
Unless you have a flux capacitor.
nope.
in that case a garbage-can would do.
Great Scott! I told you not too…
All the pieces are complete, just waiting for the paint to dry on a couple of signs and I will install them after the game.
Wow Rick. Just looked at the glamour shots and the weathering out in natural sunlight just really brought out the age. It looks very nice. When you first started this I was expecting it to come out much smaller, just a set of tanks basically sitting by the tracks. But once it was staged it turned out to be a right nice little scene.
