Joe posted a video of the Roaring Camps & Big Tree Shay. It looks about to be a dead ringer for the Bachmann model. It has the same air tank, but no pump o the engine side. I need to watch the rest of the video and see of there are any shots of the other side.
There are a few fleeting glimpses in the video and a rare few of that side posted on the web. This is about the best I could findā¦

From left to right I think we are looking at a steam generator, air pump and water pump.
I also noticed when paying attention to the details that Bachmann left out the large steam pipe from the steam dome to the cylinders. They did model the exhaust pipe even if it is a bit on the small side.
This was probably all hashed over at great length years ago when the model came out. If I was around for that discussion I donāt remember any of it.
Not all Shays have the dry pipe runnig from the dome to the cylinders visibleā¦the Bmann Shay was of course based on the Ely Thoimsa prototype thats in Green Bay I m purty sureā¦the Dixiana Shay was used by a coal operator on the Interstate Railroad down in Virginia , has a NG tram line and a small fleet of hoppers that ran from a mine head to a tipple at the Interstate Tracksideā¦the location was called ādixianaā thus the shay was named suchā¦

See - I learned something else from the Shay Guru. Thanks Bart.
So that sent me searching only to find this at ShayLocomotives.com
On to heavy traffic, bad drivers and the NJ coast region. sn3314 located at the Pine Creek RR, NJ Museum of Transportation located at Allaire State Park Farmingdale, NJ. sn3314 is well know to large scale railroad modelers as Ely Thomas Lumber Co #6, the first shay model mass produced in 1:20 scale, becoming model of the year upon itās release. The real Ely Thomas shay is stored in the shops awaiting restoration. Itās supposed to be next in line at the all-volunteer shop. No completion date but hopes run towards late next year.
Ohh yeah I fergot about herā¦and I just watched āA to Shayā as part of my Post surgery TV watching experience in the last weekā¦ No5 is Green Bay and No6 in NJā¦No5 is in not so great conditionā¦I remeber when the Shay was vaporware Bmann saying something like they took measurements from No5, but NJ being alot closer to Phillyā¦I would think No6 more likely There are a couple of books on WV Logging Railroads out there that cover the ET narrowgauge logging operationsā¦you do know that he Climax was based on an ET prototype that ran along with the Shays? Iām thinking that its the one on display at the Cradle of Forestry Museumā¦
Thanks Bart. Pictures of #5 are pretty tough to find on the net and I have no Shay books (need to fix that some day) The Bachmann model has some features of #5, and some like the tail light and ladder are the same as Dixiana. Like most others itās probably ābased onā a prototype, but not an exact model of any.

Not in the best shapeā¦but I think that as of 2010 she had been moved to an indoor pavillionā¦
With Bobās operating session just over a week away i thought I should get Shay No. 5 in shape. Like many of my other projects, as soon as it was usable restoration work stopped in favor of running on the railroad.
Left unfinished were the rear coupler and rear foot board. The foot board and coupler pocket were in my parts box and a second Bachmann drop coupler needed to be modified for use on the rear. I also need to reinstall a few of the hose brackets the came off. Now if I could only remember where I put the suction hose!
Upon inspection, it appears this particular Shay had a rear-end collision at some point. The coupler box was damaged and the foot board broken off. The previous owner did some dubious repairs that I took apart during my restoration.
I have everything put together, but am not happy with it. The foot board is about a 1/2 inch further off the rail than the front one and Iām concerned about the pulling power of the coupler pocket as itās mounting flange was broken off in the wreck. Iāll check the Bachmann site for parts. The foot board can be made, but the coupler pocket isnāt so easy.
Anyone have any spare parts?
Jon, Try Ozark. They make coupler pockets. The OM castings are more realistic looking than the original Bāman part. Geoff

There arenāt enough pictures on this thread already?
OK, you win.
I need the foot-board with straps and the coupler pocket. Front with parts in place shown above. Rear with missing parts shown below.
Jon,
Went out in todayās mail.
Rick
Thank you Rick!
And thanks Rooster for asking for the pictures.
Eight years hence, I was asked for the link to this thread on the Rail Pro User Group website. Once I found the thread, I found all the picture links broken. It is now fixed.
Atta boy Jon!
Ok, atta atta atta boy. Will that go through?
[edit: it did. So atta boy me. ]
