Large Scale Central

Remember when I said we run in the snow?

Lots of photos, these for now, taken tonight as we were still running, and I had the plow extra:

Whiterock in the snow

Looking towards Pete’s Pit as the snow starts in.

Looking across Pitt Bull Run Trestle towards Lower Laurel as it is just starting.

Mikey having a little traction problem with the mine Porter in slick rails.

Entry to “The Shed” and snow builds.

Just starting to accumulate.

Running the Plow Extra up “The Gorge” to keep the railheads clear and prevent icing.

Trains starting to back up at Whiterock.

The 4-6-0 took over the plow while the 2-8-0 was watering and fueling, and here is clearing the Lower Loop just crossing onto Pitt Bull Run Trestle.

This was fun. Had to snag the three-truck Shay to back into the plow and shove it up to Pete’s Pit, as the 2-8-0 could not push it on the sharp curves. Slick rails.

And I thought it was spring

You’ve heard of Indian Summer?
This is Algore Spring.

Looks like fun. I got to run my trains in the snow over Christmas time. Did great untill it started to snow so hard that the trains could not keep the track clean. I guess I will have to get one of them there plow cars.

Cool! Literally!

No thanx! Don’t need any more of that stuff…it was sunny and 70 here yesterday. I’ll take that anytime. Added a turnout and siding to the RR…

Dave,

Those are some of the best pictures we have seen of your yard, landscaping and the perspective of the railroad to the rest of the property and the house. Never fear, even the big boys in Colorado had to say, “We’ll hit again tomorrow, boys”. Great photos, thanks for sharing.

HA!~

Global Warming my butt!!!
It snowed here last night too.
Only one day above 60 since last fall!
The next hippy that mentions global warming to me, I’m gonna shear his freaking head and ask him if he’s cold now!

It was my 3-truck that did Pete’s Pit siding at more the 4 percent grade! And it was fun, we were all cold and wet and laughing and trying to stay out of the plow trains way. Now my stuff is in the shop drying out! Gaarden Railroading is not for wimps!

Now to petition GR Mag to run the story on Dave’s RR…whatcha think?

Haha! That's rich!

A fair weather railroader and proud of it!

Amen! The White Pass car in the foreground of the eighth photo seemed especially appropriate.

Ah.
The CCRy is the result of a merger of all existing Colorado NG lines in the 30’s.
The proposed (but never built) California and Nevada has been, which went from tidewater on the north of San Freakingcisco Bay, crossed the Carson and Colorado at Caldelaria (we chose Mound House), and connected with the former D&RGW at Salina, Utah.

Salt water access gives barge traffic for NPC, SPC, and White Pass, hence the ability to have all that here, in regular use.

Unfortunately, the only EBT stuff is that which was purchased and re-lettered, or awaiting re-lettering.

That’s why you see WP&Y on the CCRy.

So, you are ruling out EBT stuff coming 'round the Horn, or through the ditch? Why limit your options?

Just think, you would be 'way ahead of the time, with an early form of intermodal transportation.

'cept is Eastern.

Looks like too much fun! I wish I could make it on a regular basis.

I agree Dave, a little too close to Philly.

I actually had said something close to that, but fixed it before posting.

Hey Tom, you know why Dave runs in any kind of weather? He really needs the softening up, at least that’s what I hear from all kinds of different directions. Snow and rain will do it!

Not that I believe any of it, you know how stubborn I am.
