Rebuilding the upper loop

Those of you that were here last summer know that the upper loop had a few issues. Grade was too steep, and the curve was too tight. The K would BARELY make the curve, and Bruce’s passenger car, and my 40 foot reefer, would not make it either. So, this weekend, the rebuild began.

I widened the curve out to an about-16 foot diameter circle, and eased the grade to just about 1 1/2%. The major supports are at 4 foot intervals. I’m going to add other supports so I won’t have a span of more than 2 feet.

Excellant!..

Nice !

nice

Nice… (It was peer pressure)… Looks like a well needed improvement, judging by your comments about trains not making it…

You shouldnt have any problems now. looks good

Yea, since I have a few 40 foot cars, and we put Bruce's Camellia on the ground from up there, I HAD to fix it!

You put "Camellia" on the ground!!!!! Bruce still talks to you!!!!! Oh Bob I'm really sorry!!!!!

Well, Bruce was the engineer at the time…

Looks like good progress, Bob…

Bob You did this all by you’re self?

clap clap
Looks great!

Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and warm. Probably get the rest of the posts and spline in place.

We found Rooster feathers laying around, so we're not blaming Bruce entirely..............;)

Today’s progress. Got the rest of the posts in, attached the second spline and leveled everything.

Tomorrow morning I paint over the white, and when its dry, start laying track!

Looking good. You’ll know how well you did easing the curve when you run out of old track and have a ways to go to make the connection.

Yep. I laid the old track on top the loop to see how it looks, and had to add almost 12 feet of new track. Good indication of how much less the grade is.

Nice looking Bob. How big is your diameter on the new loop? or I should ask what is the total length of track from the upper loop to where the lower section passes under? Grade.
