bob thank you for a great forum and a great website.
I have gotten wonderful information from here and have made lots of new friends. I’m sorry that it came to this.

I do have to say I am sorry to everyone on this site as well. I feel that part of this may have come from me. I know I have posted commits on a number to topics that have had in them what is the no no list.

I’m sorry if I have insulted or hurt anyone in anyway. I did not mean to. Sometimes my mouth (fingers) kick in before the brain. I just hope you all will forgive me for my bad manners in the past and understand that I realy did not mean to upset or hurt you in anyway.

And Bob thanks for not banning.

Since I cannot, and do not, want to read every post in the forums, anyone that sees anything they deem violate any of the above 3 rules, email me a link to the thread, with the subject "LSC thread question" and I'll take a look at it.
So, if HJ says something that I don't like, I can tell on him to Bob, and he'll get in trouble? Cool!

Steve is already testing the limits. hehehehehe.

Hehehe indeed!

OTOH as I have said before, on more than one occasion, those who can read have a distinct advantage (and those who comprehend are the real winners). Hehehehe!

Not sure what you mean by that? :)

HJ.

It took just 24 hours to start testing the limits.

For the first time in the almost 9 years I’ve run this forum, I have been forced to implement something I was hoping I would not have to.

Effective IMMEDIATELY:

No religion or politics discussion.
No insults. Period.
No “baiting” someone else’s beliefs, or pushing their buttons.

Anyone, and I mean ANYONE violating any of these rules, will get an public warning from me. A second offense will result in loss of posting privileges to the forums and chat. A third offense, and I will remove your account access.

Since I cannot, and do not, want to read every post in the forums, anyone that sees anything they deem violate any of the above 3 rules, email me a link to the thread, with the subject “LSC thread question” and I’ll take a look at it.

I, and I alone, am the final arbitrator on whether or not a post violates any of the above rules.

You can’t behave, so now you’ve been told to sit in the corner. Don’t like it, there are other train forums you can go try the same crap on. I’m FAR more lenient for misbehaviour than I should be, and I was hoping that you all would be adult enough to not behave like spoiled children. I, apparently, was wrong.

…sigh…

Bob , a lot of us sigh along with you .
Some of the thicker skinned among us , or some who think it doesn’t apply to them , need a short sharp shock .
Ban them .
If you have a recalcitrant child in class , you send him to the naughty corner .
I hate to bring it up , but I remember the emails I sent before I left in disgust . I could see what was happening , so took the target away .
Now it’s widespread , you need to take the shooters away .
I believe you would get the backing of the decent self controlled majority .
Let’s have fun , but not at someone else’s expense .

hehe Caleb came home from 1st grade with a special assignment. “Ask you dad what ‘Obstreperous’ means.”

I read him the definition, and he had a silly smirk. “Bud, have you been obstreperous?”

I come to these forums to get and share ideas about the hobby. The last thing I want to contribute to or read is a pointless argument about the “toys” we play with. Its unfortunate that Bob has had to take action like this.

I hope we can continue to share ideas and information and not frustrate the guys running the board. How often do you get this much value for free.
Thanks Bob, et al for the work you all do.

Dave,

To me it appears this is less about “pointless argument about the “toys” we play with”, it is squarely aimed at discussions about religion and politics

It doesn't hurt to discuss the relative merits of ABC or XYZ product, however it has been proven time and again that some would rather shoot the messenger than read and digest the message. That goes along with the firmly held believe of some that critique of ABC or XYZ is hurting the hobby as a whole. Which is a fallacy that serves no other purpose than to stifle discussion of what is wrong with the hobby!

I’m more of a “glass is half full” kind of guy. I enjoy discussing what is right about the hobby!

I try to stay to objective facts… good or bad… I want my railroad to run better, and have fun doing it…

The hobby gets way too emotional way too often in my opinion… but that’s an opinion, not a fact!

Regards, Greg

…funny how every group seems to attrackt it’s share of “Thin Skinned Twits”, that seem to claim abuse, regularily…they seem to migrate to sights where censorship is popular…or turn a comletly open forum into a PC quagmire…of course there are some from the other end of the rope that love baiting, just for the sport of it…in the middle are some who thrash around trying to find middle ground, and still another group that sits bach in merriment, watching the show…and some times the show is better than anything on the big screen…!!!

…oh, oh…I guess someone is watching me and will report me post haste…no need warning me…I guess I’m reported by now…strike one…It’s that “Twit” word…but it fits so well…the tape is over my mouth…no fear lads…

I guess I have a hard time understanding the need for folks to come to a hobby related website and express their political and religious agendas. If I want to hear or read about such things I can pick up the newspaper or turn on the news or talk radio or surf any of the thousands of websites that offer such stuff (for lack of a better term). To escape all of that I turn to hobby related websites and what do I find is more of the same old, same old.

My hobby is an escape from reality, when I’m engrossed in it I don’t care what the dems or reps are doing and I could care less about the economy, global warming or any of the other issues that seem to get some folks shorts in a knot. All I want to read about is trains or whatever hobby I’m engaged in and yes I know I don’t need to read the other stuff if I don’t want to but it often seems as if it’s being shoved down my throat or hidden behind a misleading topic headings. I don’t even go to the “Off Topic” forum for that reason but it seems to leak into other areas.

Over the past six months I have pretty much avoided the forums here at LSC as I felt after spending time here I really didn’t come away with much that I felt was worth the time spent reading it. After spending and hour trying to catch up it would appear that I have not missed much that I couldn’t do without.

It’s a shame that Bob’s efforts to provide this venue is rewarded with such behavior that he is forced to act like a grade school hall monitor but such is life on the internet I guess. Until such time as it becomes a two way media and folks can no longer hide behind the screen I guess that’s the way it will remain.

Off soap box, off line !

It’s may be boredom and the long winter that causes this.
You can only talk so much about trains, without covering everything again and again.
In a club there is usually one or two that will drift into politics, etc, during the meeting.
Same at this club.

Evidence is not proof…
