Large Scale Central

Radder's Cigar Store

This project has been finished for awhile now however the soon to be owner (guess who??) has asked questions and I realized that I never really explained it’s infrastructure. This project was started as a joke in another thread and became a reality one weekend with some leftover material I had on hand from my Lemoyne Tower build(Lemo)

This shot shows the material (kerfed redwood and coroplastic) along with a picture of the prototype selected by Jon. So ok let’s get the ball rolling!

I started by making up a window with acrylic and the kerfed redwood.

Now I framed the front, slid in coroplastic (looks like lap siding), acrylic transom windows and doors(balsa doll house doors) but someone merely suggested that it would be nice if they really opened??? So ok then  I topped it off with the freize board and some brackets cut from shoe moulding.

The 1st floor has acrylic windows and smooth 1/8" styrene side walls(suitable for billboards or posters) was my thought on this as opposed to siding. The base is acrylic with redwood planking glued to it for a floor. The entire base can be unscrewed so the doors can be slid out and replaced if needed as they are balsa. BUT THEY WORK!!

The 2nd floor is built the same way and can be slid out the back to access the 1st floor. Note the acrylic wall seperation on the 1st floor. I put that panel in there for a photographic scene to be glued on and it’s also there for 2nd floor support.

The roof is made from acrylic and slides out as well as the 2nd floor. I haven’t done a roofing material as I will leave that up to the owner when it arrives at it’s destination but the more I look at it I feel it’s screaming cedar shake shingles. Haven’t really thought about the back half but the little I did I’m thinking perhaps a set up for dancing girls or illegal cards/gambling? I forget what they called those secret places in the 20’s/ 30’s but I feel the environment is perfect for such on the back of a casual cigar store. (man that makes me mad I cannot think of the terminology)!!! The floors and base boards need a clear coat on them to make’em shine and if were having a party in the back possible a secret rear door which can be done with photographic images. Hope this helps Jon and we cannot wait to see it on your RR!

Nice…

them were “Speakeasy’s” but then you’ld have to make a basement

Cool. Thanks Dave.

Can’t quite tell if the roof is completely flat, or if it slopes. Cedar shakes would be odd on a flat roof, but would look nice if there is enough slope. I really think Richard Smith’s ‘roof in a can’ is the way to go. Gluing hundreds of cedar shingles might make me crazy

And by the way the official name will be “Dave’s Big Indian Cigars”. Need to start thinking about signage and stuff.

Thank you! Does it have to be a basement and why? I believe this structure will exist in a Don Knott's , Andy Griffith atmosphere or setting. So what is the terminology for a gambling room ....no wait.....they make 1:24 scale clawfoot tubs ...one needs to reside in the back so they can mix their booze! You guy's make my brain hurt! ;)

JON, LMAO!!! This is becoming fun ! Analyze the pictures…you have about 1/8" between the acrylic and the top of the redwood. It’s your decision as it was an ADHD moment for me. I think it’s gonna look bangin’ on Indian Hill thoughl!!! It’s far from flat…remember all structures are thoroughly tested and signed on the CVRR before final destination.

know what… remind me to make fake copper gutters for the back side! (Bo Bo’s going to NE)

Does it have a secret humidor for the Habanas?

My job is done!
You asked for it Jon now answer the gentleman’s questions!

This whole thing started between Dave and I many months ago when he noticed I was using the name Indian Hill Junction on my RR and he asked if I had an Indian. I posted an old picture of Indian Hill that had the Indian in the background…

Indian Hill Dave immediately commented that I needed a Cigar Store to which I replied that I would have one only if he built it. Little did I know he acually would  So anyway, here is the famed Indian of Indian Hill. Sorry the pictures are so big…

At least in profile you don’t notice the missing arm  - FF: Click to Enlarge - IE: Right Click Photo and select Open Link in New Window to Enlarge My hosting service is being weird again. If the photos don’t show up, try again later. Edit - Pictures working now. I hope.

With that said …the Indian needs his arm put back on (which I forgot about) and detail painted starting with aquired musket. That statue actually has quite a bit of detail that can be picked out in paint!
Always wanted to shine the butt on a copper statue at like Gettysburg whether it be a horse or whatever(civilly and legally I cannot)…
Is this possible on your Indian?
Editing to state light beer sucks!

I agree…why do light beer? Stale flat water is cheaper…

What did you get the 8oz. pony’s by mistake?

Pretty cool. Will it come with a cigar store Indian?

Nice idea, here is a Puros Indios “Chief” cigar, you should put some of these in your shop… 18", 66 ring gauge…

Greg

Damn Greg that’s like those all day suckers. Do you smoke those for a special occassion or is that your everyday brand?

Dave,

General submisssion on your collection of smokes would be interesting.

Holy s%it …now that’s a cigar!
There ya’ go Jon the ideas are rolling in!
I feel I need to install a backdoor now considering?
What color should it be and any objections to this?

Bruce,
Read again… Jon already has the Indian as that’s what started the whole thing!
I still want him to shine the indians butt!

I saw the Indian…the big one, that is. Does he have one that will fit in the front of the building?

Bruce, the Big one would fit in front of the building, but then, you wouldn’t see the building… I’m thinking, we need an indian scaled to the size of the building…

hehehe

Now you all know you can’t put an Indian in front of the cigar store Dave R cheated Jon on the build and didn’t put a covered walkway on it to put an indian on.

OK boys “GAME ON” (Andy/Dave M)
I’ll make the roof and a wooden sidewalk but you must produce a scale Indian and I also want a newspaper and shoe shine boy out front!
I will gladly make horse hitchin’ posts as well if you gentleman make the scale flies for the horses ass!
NOW GET BUSY!
