Yes, I see that the votes aren’t anonymous. So that blows the idea (stated earlier, not by me) of going back and dinging someone.
I guess that I should “JOKINGLY” ask; is there some way we can get “Airmiles Points” for contributing in a constructive manner ?..!!
…or maybe it would be more appropriate to suggest “Amtrak Points”, or Via Rail’s “Preference Points”. This is of course primarily supposed to be a model railroad (LS) web page…
My guess is the ratings will not mean a whole lot.
Most people are not participating. Many who are now may lose interest and stop rating/thanking others.
The negative reputation points are going to end up a tit for tat thing.
You ding me. I ding you back. Before we know it, nobody wants to give a negative for fear of getting one themselves.
Of course, some of us will not care one way or the other.

Reputation is private between the giver and receiver; except for the rating. You don’t know who has given me points, but I do.
Thanks are Public. They get listed below the post that was thanked.
I see something new in the last 24 hours - A star rating for the thread that you can add your rating of the thread and it averages.
@Ralph - You probably have that right.

Ralph, I am one of those who isn’t going to be too concerned about ratings. I prefer to judge folks for myself. I also prefer that folks judge me for themselves, of course that doesn’t always happen.
On the lines of judging for myself, one of my favorite customers, from a few jobs back, had a bad reputation among the other techs. But I took the time to listen to her, and I took the time to do a good job for her. She appreciated both, since she had received so little of either from the other techs. The other techs all knew her as a bit , but, when she saw my little white truck pull into her parking lot, she would drop what she was doing and have a cup of coffee waiting for me beside the copier. We would chat for several minutes before getting to the part about what was wrong with her copier. So, in my experience, its best to judge for yourself, instead of taking the word of “everyone” else.
Hmmm … kind of interesting, but …
Back in '69, when I got to these shores, I had a letter of recommendation from the head honcho of Black&Decker Switzerland which was to be my "in"at their Canadian plant.
And here comes one of my quirky anecdotes: during the interview (about a week after landing in Canada) the head of personnel mentioned “you’ll be sticking out like a sore thumb wearing that beard”, which, due to my strictly elementary English, I asked him to explain. He did. In my elementary English I told him that I don’t work with my beard, for work I use my brains and hands. Got the job and started the following Monday.
And where’s the connection to ratings? Ratings are mostly arbitrary and subjective. However I never expected to win a beauty, popularity or PC contest and at my age it’s too late to start worrying about it.
Sorry Guys, I don’t get it. How is this large scale train or hobby related? I’ve read all 3 pages and it seems rather silly. I got an email from Bob, I think automatic, and it made no sense. Oh well, something else to just delete. Sure I’ll be your friend, but why did you have to ask?
I don’t do the Social sites, am not in the habit of Likes.
I’d rather thank the person than check a box, but then again I talk to strangers too.
