Two days ago, we had the “Wind Storm of the Century,” with sustained winds of 60 kts and gusts to 100 kts at the Deer Park Aerodrome, just a scant few miles away. We lost several shingles on the roof, and a tree came down, close by the chicken coop. My lovely bride was inside said coop when the tree fell, oblivious to everything. I, on the other hand, was just walking up to the coop, to retrieve her, and drag her back to the house, mad dogs and English women, you know, and I witnessed the whole thing. Now, a tree almost falling on my lovely bride is bad enough, but the damn tree fell on the mainline of the CR & TC, displacing the track, probably bending it, too. Even stainless steel won’t stand up to a 100 ft tall Ponderosa Pine.
To make matters worse, electrical power is out, here at the Feather Creek Ranch, and the power company doesn’t think they can hook us back up for 3 - 5 days. Our main source of heat is wood, and we have lots of camping gear, so this is just an inconvenience.
As soon as I get power back, I’ll post some photos. I’m posting this from my tablet, and haven’t figured out how to post pics from this contraption.
