Post yor snow pictures here

For those that are brave and man enough to run trains or go outside post those snow pictures here. I got a few before work today. Some scenes early this morning

Nice! That’s a perfect amount of snow. Looks like a big storm dropped a couple of feet on the logging camp.

I missed those pics Shawn.

OK - Here ya go… First snow on the new bridge…

The plow being overwhelmed and the train under powered at this point the crew gave up and retreated to the warm engine house…

I had to bring the train back in for re-programming and to add the second battery pack. I had max throttle set too low and I don’t think the single battery pack was enough fro two locos under load. It’s getting dark now so attempt #2 will wait for tomorrow.

Thanks Jon. I knew I could count on you. Bridge looks great with some snow. If you need a hand the mountain boys can give you a hand

COOL!!!

Nice.
I’m happy for you both…and even happier I have no snow here
Ralph

We finally got some snow, yesterday. Light, fluffy powder, it was. Fully 10 inches of the stuff.

Today it warmed up to 42 F.

Tonight is is supposed to drop to 12 F.

I think I will stay inside. I used to go camping in this kind of weather. I’ve grown smarter as I’ve matured.

I’ve laid in a large pile of split wood in case the power goes out in the middle of the night.

Why is it that mature wisdom so closely resembles just being too tired?

I am waiting for thaw pictures. Only four more months of winter :expressionless:

I made an attempt to plow the RR this morning. Snow was too deep for one engine to push. Good 6 inches on the line. The good news is the new plow works great. Cant wait to try it out when there is 2 or so inches of snow.

I did get the line cleared but cant run anything today. have our club meeting today.

I’m going back out for another attempt today with a 2200AH battery pack and an increased top speed setting on the RailBoss.

While youse guys are out there in the cold and wet trying to take pictures of frozen scenery, I think I’ll just throw another log on the fire and wait for the pix to show up…

The storm front came thru Northern New Mexico last night. At 5300 ft alt. we should need a rotary here at the base of the Mighty Colorado San Juan Mountains, NOT! I would love to have to plow on the NMNRR. At this rate how do I justify building a Plow. Maybe next time.

Yaa thats snow… Mile high snow.

Round 2. With added battery power I put the train out to cool for an hour to see if that would help…

The crew encountered the first uncleared track rounding Coal Dump Curve…

The snow being so deep and on a steep grade it took several attempts to get around the curve…

Once they hit straight track it was hi-ball across the Indian Hill bridge…

But approaching Pine Summit the deep snow caused the train to slip. At this point the crew was wishing the shop had readied the SD-45 again this year. They love their ALCO power, but it just doesn’t have the traction of the big EMD…

They did make it all the way to Deep Cut tunnel, but the photographer got cold and climbed back into the caboose. Meanwhile, the crew backed down the hill, cleaned up the Indian Hill Junction switch, and started heading for Northville…

Finally made it to Walk Crossing…

And EOT at Northville…

The second plow the crew requested for the rear of the train has yet to show up, so the crew must shove all the way home and turn on the balloon track in order to clear the other leg of the wye. By the time they got back to West Es-Cap-E and dug themselves out of the cab and caboose they were just about frozen solid and requested relief…

Even the caboose got socked in this trip…

With only an hour of daylight left, temperatures dropping and the crew inside huddled around the fire, the wye will probably will stay closed for now. I need a Brandy !

Nice run Jon. But I’m with Ken on this.

Excellent!!!
Bout’ time you grew some balls and played hard core in the snow Jon…it’s addicting !!

Shawn…the plow looks good

Jon nice run. I think I need double head my engine. Tomorrow looks bad freezing rain to rain.

What about if instead of photos of snow, I shared two videos of us plowing out the RR and then running a snowy freight?

Video 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KpaPk19PHc

Great job Charlie !!!

Great video Charlie. Looks like you had just the right amount of snow for plowing. It was a little too deep for on my line especially for one engine.
