Nice pictures, Jon!

Here’s a short video I made while bucking drifts on Saturday:

I agree with Shawn Charlie, Nice video and those Conrail SD-45s SWEET…and very rare.

I’m with Ken,and Dave on this one.
My line is down until warm weather.
Frost heave disabled my line.
So nothing here until spring.

CZ , Mark, nice runs always fun to watch

Nice videos Charlie. Reminds me why I bought my SD-45 in the first place  I need to get the couplers on it changed out so I can pull my battery car and then it will be back in plow service - OR - I could just have it lead an RS-3 unit as it still has Arsito couplers on one end. They are a little mis-matched for speed.

What about if instead of photos of snow, I shared two videos of us plowing out the RR and then running a snowy freight?

Excellent!
Kinda wish I would have gotten the Penguin out as the snow was perfect for plowing…

Jon,
With the snow like it was, you could have probably plowed with the SD-45 and RS-3’s without a problem. I used the mallet and RS-3 in 2009 to plow the line. When the RS-3 stopped running, the mallet shoved the plow, dead RS-3 and cleared the 6-8" snow without much effort, or so it seemed.

Thanks Mark. I’ve run the two together before and never noticed a problem, but individually they are quite different, especially the start voltage. Here they are together almost exactly one year ago…

Yup, sure did. That was the second of three plow wrecks in 2011. I do believe the crew may have been drinking…

I love it!

I put together a better video from Saturday:

Mark;

Thanks for the video. WOW! I can’t get over how big Luke is! (Of course, my “baby” turned 35 this past November.) I still remember seeing you at ECLSTS with Luke in one of those cuddle carriers that get worn over the chest.

Loved seeing the Y buck drifts. Way back in 1960, I read a story in the original Railroad Magazine about bucking drifts in the 1890s. The plow crew had two Moguls and a 4-4-0. When the greenhorn from the crew asked why they coupled the 4-4-0 next to the plow, one of the seasoned railroaders replied: “Cause that way the big hogs can pull the little 'gine and the plow back on to the track after they go on the ground!”

If I ever get another layout, I intend to buck drifts with my HLW Big John.

Thanks again,
David Meashey

Golly, I could have sworn their was snow out there yesterday…

Ain’t nuttin’ but mud 'round here now. No accumulating snow in the long range forecast either. At work we are hoping for a deep freeze so we can get some heavy equipment across a grassy area and it looks like we will be waiting for a while.

Edit to add: Nice video Mark!

…:)…

Dave M,
I started to put together a movie with just the clips from trips to the Strasburg railroad we’ve made since about 2009 and the movie is over 17 minutes so far, and I didn’t get to Spring, Summer or Fall of 2011 yet. As I watch the movie, I can literally watch Luke grow up in 20 minutes.

Dave R: Glad you liked it! An aside: My coworker sent me a link from this website showing me your model of the J tower. He worked with the group that did the restoration of the real one and thought your model looked awesome.
