This may seem to have very little to do with where this thread is going, but I just have an idea it is along the same line.
Have you ever noticed how the auto workers of North America, scream bloody murder when they loose jobs; the rail workers do the same, as do all of us consumers.
But… Take a long hard look at the parking lots at a Ford or GM plant and see what automobiles the workers are buying. Listen to the bitching of the rail workers, and then look at what we the consumers buy while out shopping; just look in our carts at the stores…
No LOYALTY TO OUR EMPLOYERS AT ALL. But yet we bitch at the world for giving us a hard time while buying off shore and on the other hand, demanding that our Unions get us more and more money from our employers.
Of course our employers, who have to keep above the bottom line; don’t do much to improve the situation. They all live in the same neighbourhoods of America, and eat the same food; breath the same air and their shopping carts aren’t any different.
It used to be that you could look at the shipping docks of the industries of North America, and see business booming. Not anymore. The only motions you see are the waving of arms and the noise of the STOCK MARKET. We only rest on our laurels and hope that buy buying “Paper”, we can reap a harvest on the stock exchanges with little or no physical labour. While so called “Alien Workers”, clamour to get into our countries to take jobs we consider to be “BENEATH US”
Out there, especially in CANADA, you see us shipping off our raw products to foreign lands, only to see us buying back products made and built with our raw products and offshore labour. Without our labour force ever being greatly involved.
Our investments never go to plants here, that use our resourses; we invest off shore in hope of the big windfall. We even fight with our neigbours over our so called " North American FREE TRADE" Of course our neigbours fight back, with a protectionist attitude E.G. Softwood lumber and Agricultural products. (Free trade…bull shi*t…we don’t even have free trade amungst our Provinces)
Our world is slowly turning inside out; with us becoming the “Third World”, while the old “Third World” is grabbing us by the “Crown Jewels”.
We are doing it to our selves…greed…we must have our big hot cars to impress the neighbours…we must be the first on our block to get the best “Whatever” that comes down the tube. We must seek the highest wage without ever thinking what a wage increase involves. We must always be “Winners”, at what risk ?
We North Americans are SPOILED beyond help. Yes, we have had the odd revolution, and small wars here and there in the distant past. BUT, none of us has seen real ruin or war on our home ground in several generations.
We go and fight off shore, to try to protect a world that really is slowely taking over our resourses, and wealth. We are actually loosing ground right here at home, and don’t recognize it.
Here in Canada we still can get along without guns, generally. But the day is coming here, where even Canadians will have to strap on a side arm and join our neigbours, fighting the invaders from within.
Even with modern technology, we aren't winning right here at home.
Will we ever actually get out and vote for the leaders we keep saying we deserve ?
Will we just look at being governed as just part of what we must put up with ?
Will we always sit back and let “Others” lead, and become the “Polititions” we say we dislike, and always chastise.
Will be keep on following the weird path of “Political Correctness” ?
It’s all fine to yell and scream on forums such as this, where we should be actually talking about our hobby, and sharing our knowledge in a constructive manner.
BUT; what are we doing while out in the streets, closed up in our fabulous automobiles, avoiding talking with our neigbours....do we ever walk to the store anymore ?
Do we ever promote fellowship and goodwill with the people next door ?
Do we do anything except promote Sports, where there is only a winner and a looser, while forgetting the opportunity to share a hobby where there are NO LOOSERS, and we can ALL BE WINNERS ?
I’ve gone on long enough, but it is a sad day really, where we need a forum on a MODEL RAILROAD SITE, that is for OFF TOPIC stuff…we should really be venting out at town hall meetings, where we can share our frustrations with the people that tegether with, we can make a difference.
Then properly dispose of him.
