Hans, yes, but. I like having cars of varying sizes in my trains, So even though I know the Piko stuff is “off”, I like my Piko boxcar and run it in my trains.
And I have a few MDC cars I also run.

When I was doing O gage, I purchased a UP Inter M set which had three cars, one with a ETD and the engine was an SD70 ace. It was operated by remote control via a small controller. Now I realize this was not high grade stuff here, but I liked the set and the look. This was made by MTH. That was until I purchased a Lionel SD70 ace and saw the really huge differences in scale. The dimensions of the MTH engine were obviously much smaller. Though both engines are touted as being 0. I found this very conflicting, but totally understandable as the need to make things that fit into boxes seems far more pressing an issue versus getting something that is true blue scaled correctly.
Honestly, I did not care. I just know a purest was out there somewhere, lamenting the fact that no one company is completely and utterly perfect in their replications of these behemoths. As near as I can tell, the same holds true with G gage products and owing to the fact that the German people are absolutely bar none, anal about getting things engineered with a high degree of integrity and accuracy, I suspect that their products, be it LGB or Piko will always fair better in this arena. I may be wrong. Probably am, but sincerely guys, this is all rendered moot for me when I run my engines on my layout and think how blessed I am to live in a country where I can do such things. jmo

I have pre-ordered one in Reading livery. It should look good with the bobber that I recently modified slightly into this:

I always liked that NYC green box car. The car just looks like a real piece of railroading history. Even in scale.
I might add, I run Piko and LGB for my Euro and Aristo-Craft and USA Trains, thus far, for my future American railroad. The differences in scale are only obvious to those that desire perfection and accuracy. I don’t blame such people. In fact, I rather respect such people because they remind us all, that there is nothing wrong with getting her done right!
I love that boxcar!!!

Great looking Bobber. Who doesn’t love those bobber’s. I only have one for my D&RG steamer which I never use anymore, but oddly, I like the bobber more then the engine itself…LOL
Nice picture BTW.
Very sharp of TRAINWORLD to use LSC.
Please check my proposal in this section - General Discussion.

It would seem a second version WITHOUT the board would be cost effective. All your doing is removing a costly item not wanted or needed by a large potential market.
Jim, there you go, making sense again. You are going to have to knock that off.
I agree, and the Piko Mogul is available without the board. You just have to look for it. So maybe, just maybe the Camelback will be too. But I aint holding my breath for it.
If I pick one up I’m just going to pull the board out and sell it. Even if I only get a few bucks for it thats something for something I’ll never be using.
Does anyone know the date when this going to be released here in the US? Piko only says second quarter of this year, which is now, by my reckoning.
Vic I was told sometime in June

Thanks, I was hoping I might get a good look at one at the Big Train Show, thats May31/June1
I have just reviewed this thread as I have no interest in a small switcher loco and did not read it before.
I have come to the conclusion that it is an extremely ugly looking loco which resembles something kludged out of the junk box. Rowland Emmet* would have made it far more aesthetically pleasing. lol Fr. Fred mentions the unworkable motion, I guess it could be made to look like it would actually propel the loco but that would seem to be yet another loco that falls into the ‘fix it’ before running category.

Vic, there was one on display at the ECLSTS, so maybe someone will have one at the Big Train Show for you to look at.
I usually know when something has hit the market, because Trainworld sends me a “buy it now” email…
Vic there was a pre production model at the ECLSTS in March maybe it will be there

Whomever posts next:
Do you want LS Central to have a NEW PRODUCTS section? Consider over 4000 hits on this one product (PIKO’s new loco) that was placed on this site by both one of our members AND by Trainworld !
Clearly, to me, our members could easily support mfgs. submitting their new products to a NEW PRODUCTS section on LSC long before we read about them in Garden RR-- just like Model Railroader has a NEW PRODUCTS section on their web site. NO reference to shops or prices other than MSRP - just description and photos.
Your take?
Bob just added manufacturer-specific forums a week or so ago for similar product announcements. If a manufacturer were to want to make an announcement, they’d need only contact Bob to do so. Alas, if the “News” forum that’s been on MLS for quite a few years now is any indication, the chances of getting the “big” manufacturers to post announcements here is pretty slim. I’d love to be proven wrong, but I’m not optimistic.
Later,
K

Perhaps it is their strategy with such unique item to get higher price sales with all the extras first then once sales slow down then offer a cheaper version without the extras. All the ‘must haves’ will buy it regardless.

They do it because it really helps boost there profits, the actual electronic boards in reality cost a fraction of what they charge. They offer it with all the silicon bells and electronic whistles because they know that 90% of the potential market for it will buy it with them whether they need them or not, that has been proven over and over with LGB, AC Bmann and USA products for the last ten years. Its actually MORE expensive for the mfr to offer a separate bells free version because now they have to have two separate assembly line and packaging procedures, sucks I know, but that the way the cookie crumbles.
I called the local Piko dealer in Kentucky yesterday who says they are still due in June. Was hoping they were going to make a few other road names besides Reading but it doesnt look like that will happen this year. As far as price he sold it to me for $430 which I thought was decent. Idid find some cool pics of 0-6-0 on google.
