Due for release in October is the Piko Taurus in Amtrak livery. Is this gratuitious badge engineering or was the Taurus actually trialled in the United States? I know the the original German ICE train was run in the States and thus the Lehmann verion is a reasonable (?) likeness, although they got the colour wrong.
I’ve seen ads that call it "a fantasy paint scheme.
It looks familiar in that Amtrak garb. It sure is a nice looker regardless of accuracy. This will sell really well especially for the east coast guys.
Tim,
It’s strictly fictional. Probably a trial balloon to find out if the American market is still receptive to all kinds of “could have been, should have been, it’s my damn railroad” product. We’ll see!
OTOH not much worse than having a Taurus in RhB livery as a Ge 4/4 IV.
I think they’d have better luck puting Pennsy pinstripes, NYC lightning stripes, or a Santa Fe Warbonnet on it. People would by cockroaches if they came in those paint schemes.

I heard somewhere if you wear those funny glasses, everything looks to-scale and perfect. Didn’t the good Doctor mail a set to Milwaukee?
I’m not saying I would get one, but I’ll at least think about it…It would be nice to run something “modern” and “American” on my catenary. “Shockingly” all I have now is Rhb equipment.
A friend of mine has a Taurus painted up in LNER apple green with all the lining - I’ll see if i can get a pic to somebody or other to post for me. It actually looks great!

God forbid anyone have fun…Don’t like it - don’t buy it.

To quote/paraphrase some of the past comments (relating to similar LGB ware) on German fora: “Die Amis sind blöd genug diesen Mist zu kaufen, deshalb wird es produziert” (The Americans are dumb enough to buy this crap, that’s why it gets produced).
Interestingly there are enough posts on German fora with people mentioning selling their PIKO G motive power - it just doesn’t perform well enough in the garden. And there is at least one instance that I read where someone retro fitted a Taurus with LGB power trucks to get a smooth running engine. It’s the old story: You get what you pay for!
PS I only buy what I like and what fits my RhB :D. I have yet to buy something from W-PIKO.

Damn!
I’ll buy some of those Giant Cockroaches from the pet shop, paint 'em Warbonnet, and make my fortune on E-bay!
Thanks for the tip, Kevin!

What an arrogant statement! Glad I’m a dumb American!

Well, you know they all are entitled to their opinions, too. I’m just waiting for the Amtrak Taurus comments from across the pond, maybe there’s a good quote among them.
You know those two look surprisingly similar the side windows seem to be the biggest difference.
Other than the paint scheme.
I like it…
But weren’t those same German fora also in a consistant panty-bunching because the 40 year old LGB Stainz wasnt an exact scale replica model of the real engine???
You simply cannot please everyone, sometimes in the prototype crowds maybe that should be, you can’t please ANYONE.
Victor Smith said:Not really, they accepted the Stainz as a toy which Wolfgang R fine tuned until it had "pleasing lines". :D And it supposedly makes a good kitbashing base; not that I would know, I never bought one.

Piko should paint it in the Phase V scheme, then it would look like the ACS-64 locomotives Amtrak has on order from Seimens.
