Well now that I’m posting this last drawing Kens words have a bit more credence. But hey a have a big mouth, I’ll try to chew it. This drawing shows all the LDE’s, as Craig calls them, linked in to one possible configuration. Basically I would consider all of the named places on here Their own LDE with exception of everything between Wrays Hill wye to Sideling Hill tunnel being one LDE. I’ve modeled in some roads, water features and buildings, but not everything. In the big island to the right all those features will go towards the center and get lost in the hills and foliage to blend the scenes. It’s big (300 x 160) but probably not too big. Now I’ll just have to wait until we find our new place and see what I have to work with. At least I have a decent knowledge of what space I’d need now. If space allows I’d like to make the big island on the right a bit longer and add a little more distance between the destinations, but it could work as drawn. The shortest sidings are 10 car and many longer. Oh yeah, I’m not going to draw MT union, I know about how big it will be and it would also be some of the last track I’d put down. You will have to imagine it being off to the left.
Will be cool to see it as a finished layout…
I’d have a 3-4 car siding at Tuscarora to interchange cars with Kevin Strong’s RR
The interchange with the TRR would be out of Orbisonia. Take the spur of the Wye about 1 mile east to Blacklog, and you’ll find the TRR crews ready and willing to pick up whatever you’ve got for us.
Later,
K
Yeah Andy, Very cool. I just hope I can stand to wait until we move and I can start it. I’ll probably get a head start building a ton of #7 switches in preparation.
Here is an interesting follow up to this original drawing. When I was out for the February work session I couldn’t do much poking around to see which switches were stubs verses normal points etc. since the snow had everything covered pretty well. However while standing near the electrical shed I noticed the angle of divergence looked pretty sharp on the switch. (the #4 marked on the right of the drawing) So, I went over wiped of the frog with my foot and measured. It was a number 4! I really didn’t expect to find a #4 in a real prototype yard. I can’t wait to get back out there in a few weeks to see what other tidbits I can learn.
As for this drawing project it’s pretty much done until we find some property and I can see how it will all fit in. Just going to concentrate on learning my history and building rolling stock until then.
Randy,
I would really like to know how you measured it to a #4. Hope you can show us that on the Thursday before York.
Ric, I’d be happy to. Very much looking forward to it!
