On the resurrected and warmed over threads

It may not interest anyone, but first thing I do when one of those threads is brought back to life: check the calendar to see how close to a full moon we are.
It is uncanny!

Here, here, I agree with you totally. I thought this was a ā€œTrain Related Siteā€.

I just ignore those threads.

Youā€™re rightā€¦it doesnā€™tā€¦

Nah, we can blame it on the summer heat! Iā€™m tired of only being able to work on the layout from 6-9 a.m.!

Its been suggested that I add a feature that, if youā€™re commenting on a post more than (some number) of days old, youā€™ll get some kind of ā€œare you sure you want to do this?ā€ message.

Comments?

Why make more work for yourself Bob??? If the topic is one that is not conforming to your standards of what this site should be addressing then just lock it up!! Sometimes I myself have not seen a topic and then do come across it and want to respond. The religion, and politics should NEVER be brought up here periodā€¦ Anyways itā€™s your site you can do what you want to, just like us running our layouts, and trains. Hah LOL Regal

yes, that would be nice. - but not essential.
if itā€™s easy to implement, do it - if not, nobody will die because of a thread revival.

Doesnā€™t really seem necessary, as it is really not going to happen accidentally.

It would be an unnecessary, added step on threads like Bruceā€™s recent looooong build log. It happens infrequently, and only the sissies really get upset. As you said, this is a ā€œPublick House,ā€ with you as the bar tender, and conversations can sometimes get intense. If you donā€™t like the conversation, just ignore it and move on.

Those of us who sometimes do participate, do so because we enjoy a good argument, in the nicest sense of the word, and always leave the Tap Room of the ā€œPublick Houseā€ with virtual arms around each otherā€™s virtual shoulders. Donā€™t we, Tony and HJ?

I agreeā€¦

Iā€™d just say add the original post date to the title line

Iā€™m with Bruce & Kenā€¦ Just leave it aloneā€¦ Someone is always going to bring up an old topic sometime, itā€™s human natureā€¦

Not worth spending the time onā€¦

I agreeā€¦no need.

Bringing up old threads can be interesting and even informative. No harm done.
To some, itā€™s like dragging out the old photo album

If you do, just amend the warning to ā€œFred: are you sure you want to do this?ā€

As usual, you have it backwards :)

ā€œIf all else failsā€¦blame the Roosterā€

How about an example of ā€œwarming over.ā€

While objections to ā€œflogging to deathā€ a topic certainly makes sense, Iā€™m unclear as to what constitutes a ā€˜warmed overā€™ thread.
Now, if a reader has new or ā€œdifferentā€ information, and returns to the same post title, is this warming it over?
If this is the case, is using a new posting title the groupā€™s preference?

Funny you should mention that, I just donā€™t get to the Tap Room of the real Public Houses often enough, either. Must be my sheltered life.
On the other hand, reading a warmed over thread gives me the same general feeling as warmed up, leftover food. Something to do with the episode of food poisoning during my military training, which has me toss a lot more stuff in the garbage than the ā€œaverageā€ consumer.
