Voting will end at sunup ( really more like when I drag me lazy as$ out of bed) on

Monday the 27th of Feb. Thats 7 days and a weekend.

I guess ill start the first vote. Everyone did a great job this year. Lots of great talent making it more and more difficult to vote. After looking at the photos multiple times I came up with a top three. I wish I can put them all into the top three.

1st Eric Shade

2nd Chris Kieffer

3rd Devon Sinsley

4th John Passaro (I had to add a 4th place John and Devon were neck and neck)

Vic for the napkin drawing.

Great builds everyone.

1st John Passaro

2nd Eric Shade

3rd Todd Brody

Lots of fun! Well done all!

1rst John Passaro

2nd Chris Keifer

3rd Dave Taylor

Again, this has been a fun project. I have enjoyed watching each build progress. It’s hard to narrow down the best three since they were all very good. But since we have to make a decision, here goes.

1st - Devon Sinsley

2nd - John Passaro

3rd - Todd Brody

This is insane. Last year was extremely difficult to choose favorites; this year it’s damn near impossible. I mean, look at Devon…the man built an entire diorama! Matt made a winery complete with an environment, and Pete’s BBQ and car show is so well done. How can you leave out Dan’s water tank??? Vic’s build drops right into one of his fantastic micro-layouts. I know he doesn’t want us to vote for him, but look at what Dave did with all his own manufactured building supplies. Everyone did a great job, including our hangman, and the ones that aren’t yet finished will be spectacular and I’ll be following all of them as if they were my own builds.

I don’t know, but here goes…

1st - Eric Schade and Miss Marian

2nd - the man from Home, Chris Keifer, so workmanlike and professional

3rd - Devon Sinsley, who took criticism like a champ!

There has to be a special award for Vic’s napkin drawing, if not for his build.

Most of all it was everyone’s building process that was so fascinating to me, and the fellowship is priceless.

Wot! I never said that I didn’t want anyone to vote for me?

Anyways my vote, after alot of consideration…

1st: Devon Sinsley
2nd: Eric Shade
3rd: John Passaro

HM: Dave Taylor

Devon went way over the top this year, so he deserves top prize, Chris and John’s were both really nice craftsmanship.

Ooooh… forgot to add
Spirit of Mik: Todd Brody for the Pecos Piñata

OUTSTANDING JOB DUDES!!!

1st Place: Devon Sinsley: Well when RevDev stops pontificating and does something he goes big! Well done buddy!

2nd Place: John Passaro: Amazing, a monster engine house inside and out.

3rd Place: Vic Smith: That little station screams Garden Railroad.

Spirit of Mik award: Todd Brody: There may be no prize Todd but you sure made us all laugh!!!

DA award: Boomer: for returning to the home page without clicking the “Post Reply” button…twice

Congratulations in all

My vote

1 John Passaro

2 Eric Shade

3 Vic Smith

What I hate about voting for someone is that it is a vote against all the others. I say “Hats Off” to everyone. They are all winners, even those that didn’t get finished. (I love your water wheel, Travis.) Eric Shade’s library is top notch. The little Mik’s Grove station is a joy to behold. Etc, etc, etc, …

  1. Pete Lassen captured the overall look of “Q and Stew” places here in the Southeast so well that he’s my number 1.

  2. Chris Kieffer, your building just jumps out at me as having such a realistic look that it is number 2.

  3. Devon Sinsley’s snow shed has amazing detail, worthy of Dunakin’s name being used. The water coming out the drain looks totally realistic.

There was some really great work by a lot of folks this year. It was sure fun to watch your builds come together and really difficult to pick my favorite three. Here’s my vote:

1st – Devon Sinsley – Dunakin Pass Snowshed

2nd – Dan Hilyer – Water Tank

3rd – John Passaro – Engine House

Eagerly looking forward to see what you guys come up with next year,

Bob

Hard choices!! But here’s mine.

  1. John Passaro’s engine shed

  2. Chris Kieffer’s corner store

  3. Dave Taylor’s tower

Well again this year is just a pain to vote. How do you pick? I mean as everyone has said this is just stupid trying to figure out a top three. But alas we must. So #1 goes to everyone who actually finished and #2 goes to all the rest who didn’t. No Seriously her we go.

#1 John P. This was tough between this one an #2. The deciding factor was just because I like the engine house. When John started he had big dreams that he quickly realized would not work. So plan B was to scale it down. Well if that is a scaled down engine house then damn!!! So many different things came together to just turn into a cool build. cut stone, boulders, brick, copper, and wood. (but I still think wrought iron hinges are the ticket, don’t for get my offer).

#2 Eric. While I like John’s engine house for what it is, Eric just kicks but in the detail department. Yeah he gets to work in giant scale but even so I strive to be half as dedicated to detail as Eric. That is just a very cool building and love all the extra fine elements. Wonder what he could do 1:1?

#3 OK this is a tie sorry but I can’t choose. Chris K’s building looks like a Norman Rockwell painting. That building would be right at home anywhere in the USA. It is just the epitome of Americana. And Dan H just simply built a very cool water tank that matches his last years build to a T. Love it.

Some honorable mentions are in order. Todd, what a hoot. Fancy laser work aside, the story line behind it and the fun we had with a somber subject was just too cool to not give a shout out to. And my buddy Pete L, you weren’t even sure if you should or could, but you nailed it. If this is what you can do as a first time ever scratch builder of anything then we have years of excellent modeling from you in the future. Dave T. You asked us not to so I didn’t vote for you other wise you would have been in the mix. and David M get the award for best eye for discarded item that in turn will look bitchin on a railroad. Vic your still my inspiration for small can still be Large Scale.

Great job. . .Is is Jan 2018 yet?

as others mentioned, it gets harder every year to decide, for what NOT to vote.

(and, at second thoughts, none really in Mik’s spirit. - yes, look up his work and compare it with this years entrants.

he was a “five foot modeller”. he went for the general impression and ignored blobs of glue in the wrong spaces. but enough…)

all these nice, pristine and beautyfull projects. even Dave’s ban on voting for his tower didn’t slim down the selection enough.

so voting by quality didn’t work. that left me with about five first places.

so i gave over to my gutfeeling. what do i like most by theme and likening to things, that might fit into my layout?

1st: Chris Kieffer’s corner building.

2nd: John Passaro’s loco shed.

3rd: Devon’s tawing diorama.

and i vote, that we all thank Dave Taylor for his efforts to keep this running.

Dave asked me to post a picture of my incomplete bank. I am actually bit embarrassed to post this.

After loosing 2 weekends and 5 weekdays to the flu, I just didn’t bother to cram on the last weekend and end up with a ruddy mess. I knew that it was impossible to finish, and I was still very tired from the flu, so instead of seeing how far I could get on the last weekend, I just slept most of that weekend.

Coroplast scraps from work, $0.00

Glue, on hand $0.00

Stones provided by Dave, thanks Dave $0.00

Total cost $0.00

Well damn, I thought the challenge was tough. Everyone did a great job, and it was a ton of fun. I had 1 & 2 picked, but flip flopped on the order. Third place was a lot tougher. I figured if I voted, then I would quit thinking about it and turning my brain into mush.

1st Place - John Passaro, the variety of textures and build materials in his engine shed look great to me.

2nd Place - Eric Shade, love the craftsmanship and the work that went into the wood details

3rd Place - Pete Lassen, as a first timer myself, I know how daunting competing in this challenge is. Plus come on, it was Beer, Fire, Meat and Cars…If he had put Dancing Girls in there it would have been Grand Champion!

Thanks for the fun,

Chris
