Large Scale Central

Oct 2013 GR. No AC ads!

I have just seen the latest GR.

There is not one iota of advertising in it by AristoCraft or Crest.

Just what is going on with AC?

I guess we’ll find out sooner or later…

2 ideas

  1. Ya got to have stuff to back up your ads.

  2. There were bigger bills to be paid.

Dec issue will be telling.

We’ve been al through this in prior post! though it is scary. the new(old, manufacturing date on engines were 1 1/2 yr ago according to those who received them) 0-4-0 isn’t what Loooie described. The ‘full’ container only contained some 0-4-0s and some leftover heavyweights. among some sundry items that appear to be left over from previous productions. No ads any place.

I really hope they pull through with the G scale engines and rolling stock. I like a lot of their products and am committed to the Revolution system!!!

Michael. With respect, I understand what you are saying about the dating on the 040, but, what has that to do with there being no AC ads in the Oct 2013 GR?

I always believed that the lead time for magazine advertisements was around three months. This implies the issues are possibly worse than hypothesised.

As regards ‘new old stock’ 0-4-0’s. Well, possibly a container has been sitting around for a very long time awaiting clearance to export (bills paid?). Who buys 0-4-0’s and heavyweights these days? New old stock, possibly not ‘current’ production as was lead to believe (leftovers from a run a year or two ago?).

Seems odd that when the public is clamouring for new Revo production, a few 0-4-0’s and heavyweights were in the container. Last one out turn off the light, please.

Tim I’m a little perplexed by this comment, Not everyone is narrow gauge.

I would buy a 0-4-0 if I thought it was worth it. It would fit perfectly on my harbor layout, and heavyweights vs what else is for offer??? .

If you modeling anything mainline from 1920 to 1950 heavyweights were often the defacto mainline passenger cars and worked on branch line and commuter lines up till the mid-70’s…

So I really don’t understand the remark, as if no one out there is doing anything before 1980’s modern container stack trains and ugly modern toolbox dismals. I would love to get ahold of a couple HW cars for my Atlantic but between the unavailability on new and the crazy prices on ebay I doubt I will ever find the ones I want. There is NOTHING new being offered out there, its becoming a desert.

If they were offered again I’m sure they would sell OK, but who ever does will need to do other road names or undecorated so we can add our own decals.

Happy Halloween…

That sound you hear is all the rose coloured glasses hitting the floor and shattering.
Reality is a bitch.
How many stories will they make up?
Oh, the artwork was 2011, and the factory forgot to update the date…and the box printing was set up in 2012, and the factory forgot to change it to 2013.
Oh, and we gave up on the 1:24 Delton Classic line, but, lookie, we’ve got new…old…new…updated 1:24 2-8-0’s here.
Makes you wonder if the PRC shippers are just choosing what to stick in the partial containers or if they are purposefully going to the oldest stuff at the bottom of the pile to ship first.
Vic, yer right, nothing new…and unless another Sol Kramer shows up soon, might not be much new.
I was really impressed with the quote by The Great One hisself, where He claims the new 0-4-0’s have the D axles and wheels…regardless of photographs of units just delivered to the contrary.

Oh, and 0-4-0’s and heavyweights.
Not very often, other than switching, you would see a string of heavyweights hauled by an 0-4-0.
Just imagine a PRR A-5 hauling 14 heavyweights around Horseshoe at 60 MPH in January, with full steam heat supplied…
The mind simply boggles at the stupidity of major railroads of the time who insisted on big engines when the 0-4-0’s would have sufficed…
Joke, Vic, just a joke…

Yeah Dave I get the joke, but consider a A-5 pulling 3 HWs on a tourist line at 20mph, is very believable.

The way some are thinking; this might be the time to get back into the house, and start modelling again in HO, or maybe Sn3. There seems to be all sorts of stuff in those scales to please most people. Then there is that upstart; On30, which seems to be on sale everywhere. As we get older and start heading for the nursing homes; It might be a good time to trash the LS thoughts, and face reality. Or…maybe it’s time to start chasing those available ladies of our older age, and enjoy a bit of loving, instead of fretting about the lack of stuff to buy for the unattended tracks through the weeds. A good large bottle of fine red whine almost trumps a pricey 0-4-0 any day if a good looking lady is included for $12:50 a Litre and a half.

I like the way you think Fred. Words of wisdom.

Fred there have been days when I have considered chucking the G stuff and doing the harbor layout in 0-27 and use the plethora of Marx stuff available, but then I get over it.

BTW just found one of my ridiculously low bids on Ebay, the kind that I always get sniped on, turned out to be the only bid on an recent ATSF set with the last version 0-4-0. So I woke this am to find I won it. Payed about 1/2 the price of the new offering on ACs website for the whole set (minus track and powerpack which I dont need). I plan to sell the boxcar and maybe the caboose, but a two truck boxcab conversion might prove to be useful. Also plan to add LGB BBs w/ power picks though I’m pretty sure I have an AC truck with power picks stuck away in a drawer on my bench.

No telling involved. Just look at the partial containers, the apparently older production being shipped first…the test layout gone, the warehouse (LP’s own words) up for sale 01SEP13…once Clambake finds new sponsors for the full page colour ads inside the front and back cover, they won’t be available any more.
Since the ECLSTS has been taken over by others, those ads won’t show up again, either.
The interesting part is RMT supposedly is making money…but the CTT ad is gone, too. Unless they are advertising in Blooms and Bees, they have zero ads anywhere.

I get Blooms and Bees…they’re not there either…

There ya go. Definitive answer. Probably now we’ll all be mentioned in the next “interview” on the Aristo Forum as rumourmongers.

Reading this posting, you mean to tell me someone looks at the ads? How about commercials on TV? Maybe once, but after that, fast forward.

I thought this forum was about trains, and not how to run a business 101. I have no control over what any company does or says, I trust people about as far as I can throw them, unless I truly know them.

If I was a newcomer and kept reading these negative posts, why the hell would I want to get involved in large scale.

It is easy to judge from behind a keyboard, if running a company is so easy, why don’t each of you start your own train company’s.
I get Garden Railways as well, the magazine is obviously on a decline as it is more like a pamphlet than a magazine.

Maybe that is the reason for no add?

Sorry I have had a stressful day,

Nico

Nico, go play trains. Ask Vinnie what he wants to run. Let him be in charge.

Mr. smith,

Regarding your previous post describing “ugly modern tool box dismals” and “Modern container stack trains”.

I’d like to inform you that I resemble that remark!
